A while ago, John Bear Ross sent Hasslefree Miniatures a conversion kit for their Grymn Powered armour troops (28mm sized). The conversion kit was to turn the trooper into a small mech for 15mm gaming.

Well… time has moved on and the kits are now available (another Tango1 exclusive):

I thought it would be nice to try a few of the new items so here is a converted 15mm mech next to its brother, a 28mm Grymn powered armour trooper:

Thats very interesting, I wonder how they do compare to other 15 mm figures.

This could help:

Love the paintjobs.
How do they measure up to a 15mm figure?
These might be the OPFFOR I was looking for for my Ion Age Battlesuits.

Thanks Stroezie.

I like this miniature and it has a variety of uses as well.

These re a perfect match for the Gitungi.

Capt Flash05 Jan 2014 12:19 p.m. PST

Yes definitely Gitungi-esque!

@ stroezie – the second image has 15mm miniatures next to the Grymn suit. I think they are from Khurasan and the Scene.

TK,

My thought exactly!

Very nice paintjobs, but the googly eyes are distracting.

I had seen these recently along with other pics. They immediately brought the Gitungi to mind. Just looking at them gets the idea machine in my brain housing group moving.

Huh, even without the conversion pack they look like they'd work as a heavy exosuit in 15mm.

Kev134006 Jan 2014 12:45 p.m. PST

My thoughts exactly! Minor weapon changes and they make great 'terminator'esk heavy powered armour.

The Grymn walker …. Now that would make a great 15mm mech.

Cheers,

Kev

I used those straight-up as power troopers, but love the look of the extra weapon on their backs. Here's a shot of the Grymn alongside 15mm dwarves from Hasslefree and 15mm.co.uk:

Borscope06 Jan 2014 4:31 p.m. PST

Which of these figures in the comparison photos are "average human" sized? IIRC the Gitungi and squats in the second are smaller than normal, and I'm not familiar with the dog soldier or the terminator.

Insomniac07 Jan 2014 12:24 p.m. PST

Sorry Mr B but those are the only 15mm troops I have :(.

I believe that the dog soldier is around human size. The Terminator is a bit taller than human.

Maybe WarrenABox can help with a 15mm human comparison shot?

WarrenAbox07 Jan 2014 6:30 p.m. PST

To be honest, I think the Grymn power armor figures are a little too big for 15mm PA, and a little too small for mechs at that scale. They work great as mechs for the sci-fi dwarves, because you could fit a dwarf into the chest cavity, but a human figure would have to be in fetal position.

I'd love to take a comparison shot for you, but my figures are in deep storage at the moment. All I've got are shots of the full fighting force.

Eli Arndt07 Jan 2014 9:26 p.m. PST

They would make a good battlesuit for 15mm though. Something bigger than power armor but smaller than a full-on mech. Especially if you were using them as alien machines.

My thinking in making those support unit bits came from seeing the Grymn powered armour for the first time, and saying to myself, "Self, that would make a great 15mm landmate/assault cyborg/dreadnought."

I hearkened back to the old-school dreads that had their entombed pilot curled into a ball inside their innards. Also, the techno-magic micro-mecha from Masamune Shirow's Orion manga.

Throw in a little bit of Ironmonger from the first Iron Man movie, and that's it in a nutshell. Small enough to hide behind a tall block wall or house, big enough to flip an APC on its side and gut it like a fish.

Best,
JBR

This took longer than it should have, but I finally got around to taking a size comparison picture for these Grymn suits.

From left to right you've got two dwarves (Rebel and 15mm.co.uk), a space merc/orc (GZG), two humans (Khurasan and Rebel), and a Grymn in power armor.

Hope that helps!

Cheers for the comparison pic! It is very useful.

To add a further dimension to the mini-mech idea, what about aerial mechs (wings from here: link ):

Definitely a good combination. Those look great.
