Yeah, the Russians have put out some beautiful prototypes, and then end up building a dozen aircraft or tanks (and one or two ships).

That new MBT sounds a bit of a reach. The technology is going to have to mature quick to make it happen. And a 3 man crew plus all that automation is going to cause a maintenance headache and a half. And 2300 of them by 2020? Not very likely…

The Russians have been operating 3 man crews for quite a long time already.What is really interesting is the crew will sit up front, side by side in a hull no wider than a T-72s.The mighty midgets dont even seem to miss an extra body for maintenance(read -track repair).

The Russian T95 may also have been this configuration.

This layout is not new as it has been in discussion from the mid 70's but this is the first full scale production attempt at it.

As far as I am aware the T72 "based" BMPT series use a similar crew layout but are support vehicles not tanks.
