Has anyone got any information on the flags for Bavarian units during the FPW?, are they similar to Napoleonics etc? |

OK, you posted at 1.06pm on the 1st, almost 24 hours have elapsed and Mollinary hasn't responded, he might be hungover, travelling or otherwise engaged but fear not, he will respond and – infuriatingly – it will be definitive :-) |

Thanks for the compliment, Rammo, sorry that I have been busy preparing to move house and have only just got onto this. As I do not have my copy of Fiebig with me (it is still in store) I cannot, I am afraid, be definitive. That said, forum members have set you off on the right course. Rudi's example is the closest to the most common type in use, but there were also similar ones with the monogram "M" in the laurel wreaths in place of the "L" illustrated. In addition to these standard patterns, one carried by each battalion, there were two exceptions. The 1st battalion of IR 5 carried a white flag, with the Bavarian arms on an ermine mantle. This is speculatively dated to 1813. Whether the field had ever oriiginally had lozenges on it they had obviously faded by the time it was photographed. The central device seems to be painted. The other exception was 1st Battalion IR13, whose flag was dated to 1803, and was a blue and white lozenge field with the arms in the centre, once again on a crowned ermine filed. Only one lion supporter on this one, as opposed to the two on the other one. This is probably more detail than you want or need. Not sure what scale you are thinking of doing the army in, but Pendraken have a sheet of Bavarian flags for 10mm figures which are both beautiful and incredibly accurate. Happy Wargaming! Mollinary |

Spot on Rudi! The Pendraken flag sheet gives the information contained in Fiebig's "Unsterbliche Treue" as to which battalions had which model. Mollinary |

I used Naploeonic flags for my Bavarians in 1866/70 – oh well – That's Commando training for you! |
