Nice work. I am painting mine up as Goblins, for use with 25-28mm figures for mass battle gaming. They work out to be just right, as per the AD&D Monster Manual, from 1977, for size when used with 25-28mm figures.

Thanks for sharing -- I had not noticed the claws on mine, before -- love how you painted them to grab attention. Very nice touch. Cheers!

Nice find – always looking for new recruits for the little prince's Goblin horde

Nice looking figures. Will make some nice additions for my LotR project in 1/72 scale.

Many thanks for your nice comments !
@Sgt Slag : I would like to see yours with 25/28mm figures.
do you have some pictures and/or a link ?
@who asked… : they are perfect for LoTR ! the best ones I think. If you're interested, ckeck my blog for Dark Alliance Orcs, they are better than the Caesar ones in my opinion.
But unfortunately, the Elves are not so good.
Same question as above: do you have a link or something else to see your first creations ? I'm curious to see what you've used for the Hobbits !!

Yes SamSagace. Much better Orcs from Dark Alliance. I am not fond of the look and feel of the Caesar orcs or Goblins. The Orcs look like caveman Orcs and the Goblins look too much like imps. That said, the Caesar Elves are top notch!

I have a selection of Goblin Factory metal Goblins that work really well for Goblins/Orcs in 1/72 scale. The warg riders look great though they look more like beefy wolves than the more monstrous Wargs.

I had a look through your blog. Orcs and Dwarves in 1/72 so far right? The Dwarves look very impressive as well. I have the Caesar Dwarves. Like them all except the hand gunner. Just a wasted figure since I don't do black powder in my fantasy games. Maybe it can be converted to crossbow?

Here is a link to my LotR stuff so far. I have some Elves and Gondorian troops to be posted. Hopefully this week.

SamSagace,

No photo's yet, as they are a work-in-progress on my painting table. I need to get back to them, as they are really superb figures. I finished painting one Warg, as motivation to myself to finish them, but it didn't work. Beautiful figure though!

I keep getting side-tracked by things I have seen on DM Scotty's forum (working on several more of these Hobgoblin Watch Towers, 1/3 down the page, and some scratch-built Treants made out of wire armatures, and Hot Glue 'skin'). Need to get back to figure painting. Your work is inspiring me to do just that. When I finish them up, I will update my blog page about them. I will be certain to show them with some 25-28mm figures, to show how well they work as Goblins on Wargs (I agree with Who asked this joker -- the Wargs do look like beefy wolves, but I am OK with that). Cheers!

Forgot to mention, I purchased several sets of Caesar's Goblins. They do look somewhat impish, but I like that. I used to have the Prince August mold for the Goblin Wolf Riders, and I cast up 60 wolves for the Wolf Army, for the Battle of Five Armies (Tolkein's big battle from, The Hobbit). I had so many wolves, but not enough riders, as I did not cast them up after the game. I took a bunch of the Caesar Goblins, cut off their base, and mounted them on top of the cast-lead PA mold's wolves. My plan is to have two types of Goblin Cavalry: Light Cavalry (PA wolves with unarmored Goblin Riders carrying spears), and Medium Cavalry (Dark Alliance Lt./Hvy. Orc Warg Riders). The Dark Alliance riders and warg figures are armored, which makes them Medium Cavalry, at the very least, so this will beef up the Goblins' army quite a bit.

As I will be painting the "Orcs" the same colors as the Goblins (brick red, as per E. Gary Gygax's description, in the 1977 AD&D Monster Manual -- list of several possible colors, and this is the one I like the most), the DA figures will be hard to tell apart, by style. Their armor will also hide the sculpting differences. They are similar in size, so they should blend well on the tabletop. Cheers!

Many thanks for your informations and links !
I've added both blogs on my blog roll !!
so i will follow your work and… your progresses !

(It could be interesting to discuss and share ideas about 1/72, 20mm, 15mm figures suitable with LoTR or The Hobbit world!)

Maybe, one idea for the Hobbits: MITHRIL ones are small, and maybe good for 1/72, I will make some comparison pictures.
