I recently came across Clockwork Goblin and I'm wondering who else out there does miniatures for 15mm weird war 2? |
John the OFM | 27 Dec 2013 7:12 p.m. PST |
Just about everybody! Seriously, when I play VSF games, 90% of the figures are "ordinary" The "weird stuff" is, and should be rare. You still need "ordinary" infantry and non-exotic tanks. The weird stuff is rather expensive! |
Grabula | 27 Dec 2013 8:08 p.m. PST |
lol, of course but I'm interested to see what manufacturers do the weird war 2 miniatures in 15mm that I can add to my more normal forces! |

Rebel does 15mm Nazi Zombies. |
Borscope | 27 Dec 2013 9:55 p.m. PST |
Gear Krieg walkers are cool, and they have US heli troops and rocket nazis but the while the walkers are crisp and precise, the infantry is blech. Eureka does some AWESOME Sci-Fi looking Germans in full armor. If you're a converter like myself, you can "weirdify" anything. E.g. These are my "Space Bersaglieri" (vice Space Marines) converted from a bunch of unbuilt WW2 Italians and friends. link |
Grabula | 27 Dec 2013 10:03 p.m. PST |
those are awesome conversions! If I had the time I'd consider doing a lot of my own, and probably down the road I will. I'd like to collect what I can first from what's already out there. As for Gear Krieg I thought it was discontinued? |
werwulf | 27 Dec 2013 10:12 p.m. PST |
Gear Krieg is no longer being produced in 15mm, DP9 pulled the plug a while back. |

How weird should weird World War II be? |

Would like to and am planning/collecting painting for it. Using things such as late Soviet Engineer platoons with extra body armour and late scouts as the main body troops. Then things such as T44s as MTBs. |

Well you've got a few options. For a 'hard' WWW2, where the Russians keep pushing through Europe, you have Khurasan building his new range, Heer 46 for E-series kits from the Jerries, Forged in Battle for a few other options like the Katzchen (however it's spelt) APC and SU-101/ T-44 etc. I don't know of anyone who does anything for continuation Japanese models (like the Type 3 Chi-Nu, Ho-Ni anti-tank variants, Japanese 'Bazooka' teams etc). For unit composition, the new 'Desperate Measures' from Battlefront has a pretty good force composition for Soviet 1945 armies – a few basic chops and changes, add some Ak-47/SKS, and RPG-2/ RPG-7 toting soldiers in 1950's garb (good luck finding that though) and voila! |
rolgan | 28 Dec 2013 8:00 a.m. PST |
@ khurasan It depends, there seems to be a lot of focus presently on the "Super science" portion of the weird wars genre, not so much on the supernatural side in 15 mm. The field needs: Vril Engineers, Thule necromancers, werewolf/s in nazi gear, WWII equipped Druid, Shaman, Swiss Guard and other Papal Assets, "Supers" and other items from folklore. |

As for Gear Krieg I thought it was discontinued? It's now down to a twice-yearly production run and sale, just like Jovian Chronicles. JC is available until the end of December, GearKrieg will be available for the month of January. DP9 says that they will bring both lines back in June, as well. The Rebel Minis Titan Marines are another option for armored troopers. I have both Titan Marines and the Eureka scifi Germans. They look related, so I think you'd be best off using them as light and heavy armored Germans. Rebel doesn't just do Nazi Zombies, they also do American and Soviet zombies. (We need to convince Rebel to add zombie Brits). Khurasan does some 15mm gray aliens, as well as some 1950s US Army troops. |
Grabula | 28 Dec 2013 10:18 p.m. PST |
how weird? Well I'm looking for most of the classic stuff, zombie troops, gorillas gone crazy, tesla weapons and so on. I'm open to anything that would be cool on a 15mm weird war tabletop. |
Spendlove | 29 Dec 2013 3:30 a.m. PST |
How weird? Weirder the better. Vampires and werewolves and anything Cthulhu in uniform. British army super spies
The list is endless. If its in comic book lore or in any kind of weird war II film its required! |
Whitwort Stormbringer | 29 Dec 2013 2:30 p.m. PST |
Zombiesmith make WWII German "piggies", which, if interested in a kind of zany or whimsical weird war, might fit the bill. They also have 15mm quar, which are more WWI, but could also potentially find their way into a WWII setting, if you were so inclined. |

@Khurasan- tastes vary, but I'd say that what makes 'weird war' different from 'alternate history' is the explicit inclusion of occult or super-science elements. So Gear Kreig (WWII Mecha) or Achtung Cthulhu (Mythos elements) is definitely Weird War, while 'Paper Panzers' like Heer 46's line or own M34 Taylor are more alternate history. Of course, the line gets blurry; I know couple of companies that are making the P.1000 'Ratte' land-cruiser in several scales, and while it's a 'real' vehicle it was so impracticable I can't see it as anything other than 'weird'. And anything that's 'alternate history' also can fit perfectly fine for a 'weird' setting; I'd definitely pull in E-series panzers and your M34 if I was going to do a weird war game in 15mm, for example. -Will |

Whoa, I should have read the OP's post more carefully; I see he's already found Clockwork Goblin! My apologies. -Will |

When I think "Weird War" I am thinking Pulp more than alternate history (though alternate history can play into it). Zombie troopers. Uplifted animals (gorillas in particular), clockwork-ish robots (with plenty of rivets), tesla weapons, war walkers, jet pack troopers, over the top huge tanks. That kind of thing. |
Cacique Caribe | 30 Dec 2013 2:10 p.m. PST |
What about a time portal that opens up in the middle of WW2, and out comes a platoon of today's troops, ready to give their side a hand in battle? Would that be weird enough for ya? Dan |
keeper Nilbog | 31 Dec 2013 4:30 a.m. PST |
A friend and myself did that with a twist – the bad guys being fantasy type forces – which worked very well (A World in Darkness – rules in one (don't ask me which) of the SFSFW Ragnarok magazines). Also, for the 'future' force idea, you have the whole of Harry Turtledove's 'World War' series – a good read if your into this type of thing. Aliens with around 2000 tech invade Earth during WWII. (though I did prefer his alternate American History series where the Confederates won the ACW and it carries things up to 1945 – with the American's getting involved in WWI (on both sides) and having there own version of WWII). |

Here is a list of everyone I have bought so far and intend to buy for my Weird War needs. (Actual normal troops and vehicles are too numerous to mention). Rebel Minis – WWII zombies, super heroes/villains and some fab sci fi mercenaries I use as female nazified assassins. Clockwork Goblin – Power armour troops, panzer mechs Eureka minis – German units in body armour and loads of weapons 15mm.co.uk – Cultists and "Terminator" robots On this list to buy
. Khurusan – new tanks, Cthulhu cult beasties Minairons – new tanks Gear Krieg (When they are back on sale) rocket troops and mechs Zombie Smith – German warpigs!! |

I don't know if this qualifies, but after seeing the first Captain America movie, I have slowly been working on several HotT armies to game it and my forces for Red Skull include werewolves, zombies, a laser gun, several and various jet and rocket aircraft, and I am looking at getting a large power suit guy to do as a Behemoth. Spendlove, I am not really finished with all of it, being a very slow painter, but am closing in on one of the US amries – Capt. Miller and his 2nd Rangers along with Pvt. Ryan. The Captain America army involves quite a few conversions so it is slower going. Red Skull only requires a few so it will go faster. Then to add to the fun I have picked up off of the movie The Desert Rats versus the Afrika Korps, and some Italians based on the movie El Alamein. The only ones I've not gotten the figures for is the Russians, but they will get their turn. I will post a few pictures of what I have done later today when I have more time. Terry |

A friend of mine painted his German company command stand for flames as Red Skull. I'm tempted to order a set of the Rebel Minis superheroes to make Cap for my Americans. |
Terry37 | 24 Jan 2014 9:17 p.m. PST |
I am doing my Captain America as depicted when he rescued Bucky Brewster and the men held captive – i.e. a royal blue helmet with an A on the front, an A2 leather jacket, M43 trousers with jump boots, a pistol belt and a kite shield. I'll be making him from an extra Essex figure I have. My Red Skull will be made from one of the Rebel Zombie Nazi officers in an overcoat and peaked cap. His stormtroopers are being made from some Khurasan space guys in helmets with a face mask. Terry |

Can't wait to see these. I have been through Rebels entire catalogue already buying up anything I can use for Weird War (and normal zombie gaming). Hopefully Rebel will add to the line up. The list of things I want from Khurusan is very scary and very long
