I got my Sails of Glory KS yesterday. I must say, the photos are a good representation of the final product. As a painter I might have liked a bit of shading or weathering; but, given the effort to get them on the table I won't quibble. I still feel the ships could really use ratlines. OK, maybe Ares games didn't want to make them but given that there are two hull sizes (74 and 32 guns) you'd think somebody could offer sets on Shapeways. |

If you're not a member of the Sails of Glory Anchorage I encourage you to join the website. Keith is planning to produce stainless steel ratlines for folks who want to upgrade the look of their ships. His tentative date for release/production will be Jan/Feb of 2014. The site is a bit off its normal look as it was hacked last weekend. All photos (including the test ratlines) are lost atm. |

I had been following the pre-KS development avidly for ages (akin to watching paint dry while still in the can), but was "Kickstarted out" when SoG finally launched. I contented myself with a sullen "stupid old ships, looked weird w/o ratlines anyway", but have since preordered the starter and a couple of ships. Thanks, Nightmoss, that makes me a lot happier about my (eventual) commitment. I will do so. And hopefully, I will get my goodies in two or three weeks. |

Yep, I only saw it after the KS was well over too

Got four (4) ships coming, but does anyone know which ships are in the starter package? Would like to order more ships now, but don't want to duplicate any that I'm about to get. Hoping that they put out some smaller ships soon. Thanks, Dan |
Ambush Alley Games | 20 Dec 2013 4:06 p.m. PST |
Dan, They've said they'll be putting these ships out in their second wave: • Heavier frigates – 36/38 guns "Hebe" class frigates, flying both French and British colors (the captured Sybille); • Powerful "Ocean" class French 1st rate, with more than 100 guns (up to 120 guns!); • Agile sloops of the "Swan" class, in British (Swan), French (Alligator) and American (Thorn) versions; • A British 1st rate of 100 guns
the "sisters" of HMS Victory – the Royal Sovereign, Royal George, and Queen Charlotte. I'm definitely looking forward to the little sloops of war! Shawn. |

Just got mine. Will open it in a couple minutes. Got every ship they had. |

Got mine today. I am thinking about dressing the ships up with pennants. I also wish they had made the bases a little thinner. I wonder if Corsec or Litko will make alternate designs. Overall I am happy with the result. Now I have to recruit some guys to play |

But what ships are included in the starter set? Anyone know? Dan |
doug redshirt | 21 Dec 2013 12:31 a.m. PST |
4 ships in starter set. 16 total in first wave. All of the ship cards are two sided representing two different ships of the same class. Mainly difference in number of guns. My problem is not being able to look at a ship and go that is such and such a class other then being a 1st or 3rd rate. I can tell the difference between a Camel or a Pup or a Dolphin and the varies Fokkers or Spads, so this will be a new learning experience for me. |

But what ships are included in the starter set? Anyone know? Picture of the starter set and four ships here: link The wording is just vague enough that I'm not certain whether these are actually the included ships, or not. |

All Just came across this game whilst randomly searching on the internet. I cannot seem to find any prices for a starter pack on the website, or where to order. Can anyone shed any light on this? F |
Nightmoss | 23 Dec 2013 6:16 p.m. PST |
It wont be out in general release until sometime in January, but you can preorder it via the Wings of Glory website: link Also the Warstore: link CoolStuffInc: coolstuffinc.com/p/191407 And many other sites as well. Hope this helps? |

Ouch! Certainly not for the budget minded, that's for sure. My one grumble is the choice of scale. Picking 1/1000 when the rest of the world is 1/1200 strikes me as pushing the "buy my stuff" banner a bid hard. |

I will stay with my 1/600th Scale ships. With over 100 of them now that would be the smart and economical rout to go. |
XRaysVision | 30 Dec 2013 12:43 a.m. PST |
Coastal2, Expensive? The starter is $65. USD For this sum you get the rules, counters, and four ships. The ships, BTW, are the same price, individually, as the two-seater Wings of Glory WWI planes. So, if subtract out the price of the rules and counters--say $20 USD because thats the cost of the ame stuff for Wings or Glory, that leaves $45 USD for four ships. It simply doesn't cost more any more than Wings of Glory. As to the scale. I, like many people, don't have AoG ships already. I don't care what scale they are as what's important to me is that they look reasonably good and I can play with painted miniatures right out of the box. |
Charlie 12 | 30 Dec 2013 6:09 p.m. PST |
Comparing the price to WoG is a non-starter (I didn't go for that game, either). And with 100+ 1/1200s, I really don't need another 4 out of scale ships (especially since they're no way as detailed as my GHQs and Langtons). My point is that it would be nice if Ares opted for a rules only package for the rest of us (but that would be asking too much, wouldn't it..). |
The Beast Rampant | 31 Dec 2013 2:20 p.m. PST |
I'm sure you can easily sell off the four in the starter, and recoup quite a bit of your investment. |
