Superb job here. "They were most famously used by the British, French and American armies in World War I for hauling heavy artillery: including BL 9.2 inch Howitzer and the BL 8 inch Howitzer. By 1916 more than 1000 were in use by British and by the end of the war around 10,000 had been used." From Wiki.
From here link Imho it's works well for Victorian SF and VBCW Hope you enjoy!. Amicalement Armand |

I just don't see tracked vehicles in VSF at all.But that's my aesthetic view of the VSF universe.I see mechanical legs, giant wheels and crazy alien 'stuff' |

Very fine model
Thanx for sharing. Holt was one of the predecessors to the current Caterpillar Inc. |

Yes, works for VBCW, but not VSF. The Victorian era was over before the caterpillar track was invented I believe. VSF has to be historically accurate!! |

uncorrect : link and some patents were voided as early as the late 1830's
so, in a what if universe, why not ? ( i can understand aesthetic reasons :o) ) |

That's a beautiful model. My grandfather had a Holt on his farm. It was long gone by the time I came along, but they still had some photos of it, and it was a *monster*. |

There were numerous track patents before 1900. George Cayley had one. Tracks could very easily be part of a vsf universe. They certainly are part of the hive queen and country technoligical pallet |

I said caterpillar track. Perhaps I should have capitalised the "C"? And as for VSF having to be historically accurate, that was meant as a
Oh well, lost in translation eh lou? |

deephorse, I get what you're saying, but it's in the same category as Zeppelins. The basic idea was around in the era and crude early attempts were made to make them, but the fine points of the mature implementation belong to the early 20th Century. Many VSF settings allow for a small fast forward of real tech, aside from the creations of Science! Like a Zeppelin, it's well within the ability of late Victorian industry to manufacture once the idea is in place and developed a bit. But the point was worth bringing up. VSF tracks do not suffer by being less sensible than these ones :) |

During the great war, a variety of Holt tractors were used to pull artillery. There are some at this site: link The one in the lower right corner of the article, was converted by "one-arm" Sutton into the famed skunk tank. Nice model made by Company B. See bottom left. Perfect for back of beyond or Chinese volunteers in VBCW link |
