Howdy, First cut at a mini-campaign map for Lodz in November of 1914. This is not intended as a part of the Great War East scenario book, but possibly as bonus material. It would be played on a scale (moving Corps & cavalry divisions) similar to the Tannenberg Mini-Campaign (that will be scenario 5 in the book).

Howdy, As I ponder this campaign, I'm wondering how did the Germans supply their Lodz offensive? I know railroads were the keys to keeping WW1 armies supplied; could the Germans relay track quickly enough to support the advance of Ninth Army? Accounts of the campaign are silent on details of supply. Ponder on, JAS

Probably you already have it, but Martin van Creveld's book, "Supplying War," dedicates a chapter to the Marne Camapign. I can't imagine much changed between the Marne and Lodz. I also doubt you will find much detailed information on the subject. |
