L4, Are those GW epic or what? Really nice. I never was great on the GW Epic universe but use the figures as other alien races in 6mm. Also, You have Slammers, Orks, and a number of other races based for some set of rules. What rules do you use? I gave up on everything except Angel Barracks and Fubar for 6mm skirmish and used to play Alien Squad Leader but really need a different set of rules for something between skirmish and Strike Legions Planetary OPs. Thanks AB & Allen, Yes, those GW Orks, Allen. We used a modified SM1/SM2/E40K/Epic:A rules. We've been gaming for decades, have played many rule systems over the years. We tended to take the "best" from a number of systems, even toying with a modified Epic/DS1 system. We also have are well read in military history and as you may know I served on active duty as a US ARMY Infantry officer for over a decade in my "youth". Eventually serving in 4 Infantry Bns as over the world in many environments. So we were always modifying rules for Epic, DS, etc. to suit our knowledge and my experiences. Of all the rules we've seen, I recommend Future War Commander, Strike Legion and DRM's Seeds of War
plus The Crucible/Hammer's Slammers
Most games we played were mulitiple Platoons/Companies, making maybe a BN + on either side
Not the massed troops seen with SM2 which rules IMO were a kin to fighting the ACW or even Napoleonics. Which had large groups of troops marching in the open in "blocks". Like in those eras in mentioned. You'd no sooner put units on the table an they'd get wipeout. And eventually came down to GW's predilection for close combat. Using ranges weapons like individual small arms like clubs ?! It appeared to me that GW just wanted to sell massed amount of models. And the rules were much more like fantasy then futuristic warfare
We took very little from SM2, in my group minds' SM2 was the worst of all the Epic iterations. With Epic:A being their best attempt
But as I always say play what rules work for you
not me
