Hi: I'm working on a WW2 naval campaign that encompasses the entire war, and I'm looking for resources that would give me some idea of the number of aircraft assigned to sea duty for all the major powers. I know it's a vast subject but I'm looking for generalities, not all the gory details. Anybody got any ideas? |

See if this contains what you're seeking: PDF link It's a bit of a slog, but it contains ALL the numbers of aircraft assigned ashore and afloat for the period of the document cited. AFAIK, there's no summary by theater, task-group, etc., so you'll have some work to do to get totals. And of course it includes only USN. If you can get back to the base URL, it'll have PDF's listed by date (week/month/year). |

Here's a URL for Fleet Air Arm records. I've not looked at it, but it is specific to 1939-1945. |

If you can get access to it there is avery useful book "The Fleet Air Arm handbook" by David Wragg. This lists all the squadrons and Air Groups operated by the RN, and the ships and air stations where they were based. For the UK remember that the RAF's Coastal Command provided recconiacance and attack squadrons. |

Apologies. Upon further review, I noted that I'd failed to include the link to FAA archives. Here 'tis: fleetairarmarchive.net |
