Hello chaps,

I have embarked on a project of a few firsts, it is my first foray into 15mm and my first proper historical project. I'm a big history buff, but it has taken me years of other wargaming to finally start a historical army, no real reason for that i suppose, possibly I knew I would be too concerned at getting all the uniforms and colours correct, or ending up buying too many things! :)

Anyway, I am modelling the 12th and 16th Luftwaffe Field Division, they will be the 12th on the Eastern Front and the 16th in the West. Fortunately the organization is relatively similar as are uniform details so they should be happily interchangeable with a few different units. I chose to do the LFD because I had a Grandfather in the Luftwaffe, as well as the huge appeal of doing a unsung regular unit, who never get much attention.

Anyway, for those who have gotten this far, here is my first completed unit the ubiquitous Flak 88, i have painted a few of the gunners wearing their cotton drill pants, as I saw on photos from the Eastern Front. As well as some of the shells painted with the yellow HE and black for AP :)

Shot looks nice; can you get in a bit closer so we can see uniforms? Any kill rings for those 88 crews (or will they still have to earn them)?

Excellent work

What a great looking unit

Thanks ferg981 :) and tuscaloosa, they haven't fought yet, I have only played with proxy and loaned armies. So once everything is done they will be on the field and earning some kills. Here is a closeup of one of the 88's as per your request.

I'm not sure if it's the same for everyone but you can right click and 'view image' to see a much bigger picture.

Very nice.

Very nice detail. Especially the helmet insignia!

Very nicely done, I'm beginning to think I'm the only person who can't paint 15mm

Negative bracken, I'm not that good either!

Top start to a rarely seen army Zoring.

Looks excellent!

I wish I could paint that well!

Bravo Two Zero14 Dec 2013 2:25 p.m. PST

not that good? you are kidding right? Those are tops. great units to do up. Not everyone picks the lesser quality stuff. Flak was one thing they did right in Luft. Feld Divisions.

Count me impressed. Bracken is the lord of 1/48th models.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

Next up is 3x StuG G's these will only be used for the 16. LFD as they have the late Saukopf mantlet, these are from the Open Fire set (which i would prefer to have had earlier Stugs but nevermind :P)

Nice looking tank, and if (and inevitably when) I start up a Heer army, they can be used for that too. I actually have some mad plans for modular terrain and a big battle for next year, so I am ambitious. We will see what happens!

Look like StuG IIIs to me, not IVs.

Zoring22 Dec 2013 6:32 p.m. PST

Oh yes, well spotted, they are indeed III's

Hallo again chaps, next lot painted, I only have two trucks to transport these lads painted at the moment so i figured better to just leave them out of the photoshoot :P Although these are bought in packs of two they are in army lists as groups of 3! But I had bought these before I realised that, such is life! I think in some lists you can use two groups of two…

and a better shot of the Stugs

donlowry05 Feb 2014 10:09 a.m. PST

IIRC, Paks came in 3-gun platoons, not 4-gun batteries. 3 platoons to the company.

Now some infantry, first Luftwaffe Jäger Platoon, I've mixed up Open Fire Grenadiers with metal ones in all my little men bases, they go together quite well, not different enough tnat you can notice them on the table, despite the Open Fire lads being a little thinner.

Very nice, are there any close ups?

bracken Supporting Member of TMP13 Feb 2014 2:54 p.m. PST

Your collection is outstanding, truely stunning for the scale

Zoring20 Feb 2014 6:23 p.m. PST

Thank you chaps, Ross, this picture is a bit closer to them, the details aren't great, but the look good on the tabletop.

Just a little one today, the Company commander, Second in Command and a Panzershreck team, (although two of the guys are carrying Panzerfausts, because I didn't want two duplicate clones on the same base) you can right click and 'view image' to see a larger photo.

Now, here is where i ask you wonderful chaps for some help! I bought an extra Flak from the BF website assuming it would come with an extra transport trolley, which it does not! So I am hoping one of you lads might have one that your not using so that I can deploy these guys with all their decoration!
