…and just after Colin left I realised I'd completely forgotten about the new German rule "Enjoy the War", damn! Oh well, live and learn.

More of the editing highlights with this one since the wife will be home in 1 ½ hours and I'm doing dinner!

why do none of your links work? What browser? at home 1/72 decals.. I had to select copy open a new window, paste – then wait.

And two days of searching, assembling, single track links.. Aaargh

…and just after Colin left I realised I'd completely forgotten about the new German rule "Enjoy the War", damn! Oh well, live and learn.

More of the editing highlights with this one since the wife will be home in 1 ½ hours and I'm doing dinner!

I went with the trained option just to get more toys on the table!

4 Panthers
4 Panzer L70V
3 Luchs
3 Nebs
3 Vet Hetzers
2 Mobelwagons
..and good old Rudy.

Colin had some guards Mech list from MG, two plts of infantry supported by 8 Shermans, (with three fireflys), 4 M10C's and 4 carriers All CV. M10C's in ambush.

Rolled up pincer with myself attacking.

Went with a right flank approach, due to the scenery helping block lots of ambush position's.

Straight away Rudy starts as he means to go on. One Firefly less to worry about.

Colin's AA is limited to a few 0.50 cals as his air defence so Rudy had a bit of a field day!

An M10C.

A platoon command Sherman.

…and another M10C

And only being denied his 5th kill because my vet Hetzers nailed his target from long range.

However that was the bulk of the good news from the German perspective.

The Luchs did a good job of keeping the M10C ambush back,

so that when they did show up,

The damage they did was minimal, a single KO Panther.

But the steady rain of Vet AT15 fire started to tell,

The Jagdpanzers big contribution to the game. Being slow, overloaded and trained I couldn't risk moving them into the woods and I just couldn't get them "engaged" properly. Wouldn't take them again with a Panzer force, I'm sure they are great at defending!

The Hetzers keep me in the game by staying over the half way line and taking on both infantry platoons in assault in the woods!

But it can't last forever!

And with them the Brit's win 4-3 after having taken and passed two company morale checks. Colin lost all 4 mobile platoons and both infantry platoons were under half so the Germans made a good show of it!

I'm trying not to think what would have happened if I'd have remembered that damn new rule since both the Luchs and the Jagdpanzers failed morale and left the board during the game. Never mind!

So how do I delete/amend the first post? Anyone know?

Armored phalanx tactics, eh. PanzerGruppe Alexander. Nice models and terrain.

ubercommando13 Dec 2013 7:34 a.m. PST

An example of two different tactical approaches: The Germans in a flying triangle wedge, the British more dispersed. Good thinking from the British, it seems; the air support template is only going to get one target at a time. I thought the British couldn't use American tank destroyer ambush rules with their M-10s (Achilles?). Anyway, the terrain looks good and I do like the contrast of tactics you two used.

Gunny B13 Dec 2013 7:49 a.m. PST

The German air support wasn't the usual sort, he was the new character out of Desperate measures. As such he gets two attacks at targets under the tempalte, doesn't matter if there is one tank under there or twenty! So the Brit's spreading out ensured that Rudel got to pick off exactly the tanks I wanted him to, i.e. the Fireflys.

Uber, its not the M10C's that have the ambush rule, but the mission. So my opponent could have put any one platoon into ambush, he wisely chose them due to the nature of my army.

ubercommando13 Dec 2013 9:41 a.m. PST

Ah, I see. Using M-10s that way for the British work. My preference when playing FoW is to keep my armour dispersed to avoid bunching up: I don't like the lack of manoeuvrability bunching up causes.

Another game of Panzer Parking Lot's?

Gunny B13 Dec 2013 4:41 p.m. PST

I only post these up here to give you something to moan about!

How many points were you playing Gunny?
Looks like Rudy worked well?
Also could you have replaced the Hetzers with some armoured inf?

Gunny B14 Dec 2013 3:20 a.m. PST

That was a 1750 points game TT, and yes, Rudy saved my bacon. Um, well I still lost, but he gave me a fighting chance.

The Vet Hetzers are 275 points, so for that you can get in a full strength SS (FT) armoured inf' platoon for the same, or a CT Heer one for 215. Can't take CV since that unit must be the same rating as the rest of your force. Then there is the Panzersturm platoon, similar to the normal Heer but with assault rifles, for 245.

On top of that are another 3 different unarmoured infantry choices! You certainly are spoiled.

Doesn't the Enjoy the War rule mean when you make a PLT morale check you do it individually for each team? So if you only have 3 tanks in a platoon, typical for the expensive German armor, and have to take a morale check due to losing 2 teams, leaving you with only one team, i.e. below 50%. So, if you are down to one team then that lone team auto fails. The rule acutally sucks!!! You never take a morale test you just roll over and quit!

If you are facing three jagdpanthers, kill two and the third runs automatically. I hate that rule so much….

Gunny B21 Oct 2014 10:58 p.m. PST

Lone teams only auto fail if they are infantry, not tank teams. No wonder you hate it!
