This is heresy but I was thinking of using my pre-dreadnaughts to also play dystopian wars (I am currently going through the free rules available for historical battles). While Aircraft carriers and Dreadnoughts can easily be presented using existing 1/2400 miniatures from other ranges, what are the options for airships? It is my understanding that Aeronoef, Iron-Stars etc all use bigger scales than 1/2400. Again heresy, but why not! With Respect KTravlos |

According to Brigade Models' site, their Aeronefs are 1/1200th scale. Irregular Miniatures has a line of air ships at the very bottom of their 6mm Scifi page. 6mm (1/285th scale) is obviously much bigger than 1/2400th scale, but the ships are listed as dreadnoughts, & you could ask if they're similar in size. The only other option may be to make your own. I've thought about taking waterline ship models & adding some sort of hull & air-screw propulsion to them. Or here are some that a friend of my made from scratch link Also, as a point of reference, many of the Brigade Models Aeronefs list the length of the model in the product list. You could just divide that by half to get general size of the ships. |

Irregulars airships are approximately the same scale as the Brigade Models Aeronefs. Both are close to 1/1200 and therefore twice the size of 1/2400 models. If you look at Brigades Aeronefs you will notice that they are really no different than surface ships with the exception of having visible aircraft style rudders. You could easily add this feature to some 1/2400 predreds to make airships. The fluff for Aeronef postulates some type of propulsion system that does not use propellers. I assume Dystopian wars is the same since only the aircraft carriers seem to have prop/fans for propulsion. I game with the 1/1200 scale ships using Wessex Aeronef rules and have converted a number of 1/1200 predreds to nefs using this simple expediency. The nefs don't have lower hulls like a surface ship so waterline models work just fine. You can add dirigibles using some of the smaller Brigade models types to round out your collection. |

Thank you but those are huge for 1/2400 are they not? |

The Houstons Ships are actually slightly larger (about 1/1000)than the Brigade Models nefs. You might find some of the smaller ship types that would work but I doubt it. I have a German nef fleet made up of Houston's models except for a couple Brigade Zeppelins. Works fine with the Brigade 1/1200 but would generally not do with 1/2400. |

I use 1/2400 ships in my Aeronef games, the fact the water based ship models are approx half the size as the Brigade models in my opinion simply adds to the impression the negs are meant to be flying over the game board. Hope this helps |

Thanks for the plug, Terry! If you need any of the ships on shapeways.com/shops/objects rescaled or to add hull & air-screw propulsion to them, ping me. It should be relatively easy to do so. arun |
