"Around 1,600 French soldiers are now deployed in the Central African Republic for the Sangaris operation, the army confirmed on Sunday, December 8, 2013, adding that no fresh clashes had occurred since Thursday. General staff spokesman Colonel Gilles Jaron said the troops were on the ground, with most in the capital Bangui and a few units deployed elsewhere…"

There are more troops ready to reinforce them.
French Government pray for that will not be necessary.
As the french troops has support from England and USA…

About the two french casualties…

"President Francois Hollande flew into Central African Republic hours after two French soldiers were killed in fighting and praised his troops for tackling "horrendous violence" against women and children and helping avert a slide into civil war.

Hollande ordered a 1,600-strong French force into its former colony last week with United Nations backing to disarm Muslim and Christian militias and halt fighting that was spilling over into killing of civilians.

Fighting continued on Tuesday. Crowds attacked a mosque, looted houses and torched cars in the capital, Bangui. The French force suffered its first casualties overnight, when two soldiers were killed in clashes with unidentified gunmen…"

It seems it's needed much more french troops.

"A militia group has killed 27 Muslims in a village in the Central African Republic, the United Nations said on Friday, in an attack underscoring the difficulties faced by French troops in stabilizing their former colony.

The Christian militia, known as anti-Balaka, killed the Muslims on Thursday in Bohong, a village about 75 km (47 miles) from the far western town of Bouar, the U.N. Human Rights office said.

"The situation is also tense in several towns, including Bouca, Bossangoa and Bozoum, where a vicious cycle of attacks and reprisals continues,"…"
