What would the colours be of the ships at the time of the Cornell and the Falklands? I only ask as I see various images of either white and buff or grey.

Cheers

In war time they were repainted grey, a darker hull and lighter superstructure. The white with yellow funnels of wartime colonial colours were painted over ASAP after hearing of the war declaration.

German Ships used a rather light grey with the hull being slightly darker than the superstructure. Decks are pale tan, the area around the funnels were painted black.

Here´s a nice picture of what it would look like:

The only difference from the offical war grey was the colonial forces didn't have access to stocks of the correct paint.

Just as the American Asiatic fleet, in world war 2, they made do and mixed their own.

It means no one can say your paint scheme is wrong, as no one knows exactly how they were painted. They did their best so darker hull lighter upper works and use Black Guardian's information as a guide

I know it is wrong, but I plan on painting up my German East Asia Squadron, and my Spanish-American War ships in their cool pre-war schemes!
