One of the armies I am building is inspired by Dune; their infantry use the Fremen-like Rebel Minis Sahadeen. What I was thinking about as well was making their vehicles similar to those seen in the classic computer wargame, Dune II. Here are the units I'd like to have on my tabletop:
Any recommendations for sources these vehicles in 15mm? |
Pictors Studio | 07 Dec 2013 7:24 a.m. PST |
Not 15mm. But in 10mm some of those look similar to the UCM stuff from Hawk Wargames. link |

Khurasan and GZG have some really cool sci-fi vehicles, that are well worth a look. |

You might have to substitute or go "close enough." but I think you can find everything but the trikes. The Ornithopers might be a bit of a pain to locate too. Oh man, nostalgia setting in. I loved that game so much. I played the original Dune on Genesis, when the unit cap was just 12, played Dune 2000 on the original Playstation and Emporer: Battle for Dune on PC. Emporer was easily my favourite. I never did play Dune II though. For vehicles, you might have some luck finding usable stuff here at Khurasan. link If you're not opposed to making wings the new VTOL gunships right at the top of the page could make for great Ornithopters. |
SonofThor | 07 Dec 2013 9:49 a.m. PST |
Khurasan's Evil Mid-Tech would make great Harkonnens
|
Golan2072 | 07 Dec 2013 12:00 p.m. PST |
Well, Khurasan have an Harkonnen-style Quad and have a VTOL which could double as an Orni. What I'm still looking for are the relatively flat, big turreted Dune II tanks, as well as a proper missile tank. Both the Rebel Minis Merka 5 and the GZG Puma are a bit similar to the Duen II tanks, but maybe there is something closer? Also, a double-turreted beast similar to the Siege Tank would be lovely to have. |

BOOYEAH! My first RTS ever! Now I want to start 15mm Dune II to :) Btw, for Sandworm I am really tempted to try this one from Irregular Miniatures
link260mm long and 80mm long one will do as smaller juvenile worm in 15mm By the way you can also use Rebel Minis Sahadeens for Fremens

How about Kremlin Miniatures' Cyberian Death Commandos? I always thought that they fit the part. link |
Golan2072 | 07 Dec 2013 10:18 p.m. PST |
I AM already using Rebel Minis Sahadeen for the Fremen-equivalents
|
Wolfprophet | 08 Dec 2013 8:28 a.m. PST |
Malleman, unfortunately Kremlin is temporarily shut down. Their casting machine seems to have broken down. |

Dune 2 had an excellent soundtrack! |

For the MLRS-type vehicle second from bottom, I believe there's a recent Transformers toy which could be pressed in to service. Someone's posted it on TMP but my search-fu isn't up to finding the thread at this time of night

SirFjodin: Sandworms really need to be big enough to swallow vehicles though – it's their main defining attribute :) It might be better to get some "emerging from the ground" minis – some jaws or similar. Or possibly just teeth

These aren't fremen, but I call them Terror Troops. I've been sitting on them for ages. Might they be of interest in Dune gaming?

Ornithoptere? Well, more like entomoptere
But painted white and perhaps slightly converted for a less organic feel? Actually the only thing that would bother me (very slightly and only when repurposing it as a human-manned vehicle, I love it as it in its official role as an insectoid-made drone) would be the texture of the "canopy"
God I hate you: you made me want to start a not-fremen army. Like I need more distractions
And Khurasan, I hate you too: I need those terror troops. |
BlackWidowPilot | 09 Dec 2013 3:02 a.m. PST |
Jon, fer crin' out loud, stop sitting on those and release them, OK?! And this begs the question, what the Hell else are you sitting on? C'mon, give! Leland R. Erickson Metal Express metal-express.net

They're very movie Sardukar. Although what I loved most about the movie were the wooden sets :) |

Who are these Sardaukar of whom you speak? |
McWong73 | 13 Dec 2013 12:48 a.m. PST |
Any space Jihadists from a desert planet coming from you Jon? |
Cergorach | 13 Dec 2013 10:17 a.m. PST |
I've been sitting on them for ages.
That must be mightily uncomfortable then! |
khurasanminiatures | 13 Dec 2013 6:15 p.m. PST |
Any space Jihadists from a desert planet coming from you Jon? Not on the front burner. An equivalent of the Janjaweed is planned though for the Neo-Arab range. Right now the Shunqs -- fearsome alien semi-nomadic desert raiders -- are being made as native opposition for the RPK (Neo-Arabs). The Janjaweed equivs will like a human paramilitary militia armed and encouraged by the RPK to destroy Shunq settlements. So they will be an unarmoured, more Bedouiny version of the RPK. (Shunqs are roughly inspired by the green men of barsoom and are very tall and skinny, but that's where the similarity ends). If you mean Kyle and his merry stilsuited band, no plans at present. |
McWong73 | 13 Dec 2013 7:14 p.m. PST |
That's what I meant, but the other releases sound sensational. The Shunqs going to have a T.E Lawrence equivalent? |
khurasanminiatures | 13 Dec 2013 7:48 p.m. PST |
Lawrence of Shunqrabia? Come to think of it that's a great idea! |
Trojan Points | 14 Dec 2013 5:20 a.m. PST |
Lawrence of Shunqrabia sounds great. What about some mount or burden beast to round up the Shunqs: imported camel or a local equivalent (dewback or some sort of small – by Dune standards – domestic sandworm)? |
parrot1500 | 18 Dec 2013 7:13 p.m. PST |
You've been sitting on troops that cool? You're a monster! Release them NOW!! Please? |
Mathias Corvinus | 24 Dec 2013 5:57 p.m. PST |

Depends on how big that is, but it looks the part. |
khurasanminiatures | 24 Dec 2013 9:11 p.m. PST |
Funnily enough, I saw it today when I was at the compleat strategist getting a last minute gift for my son. It's certainly terrifyingly huge to 15s, but not anywhere near the oh-my-god-a-living-terrain-feature size of a sandworm. The otherworld purple worm is a better fit, although removing the eyes and tail spike is a good idea.

Or does this fit it better?
Or, better yet?

And yes, those Khurasan Terror Troops would be EXCELLENT Sardaukar to serve the corrupt Emperor! |
mister droid | 08 Jun 2014 1:33 p.m. PST |
The terror troops are fantastic! I understand why it takes time, but I would be overjoyed if some of the many, many Khurasan "sneak peeks" made it to the retail level. |

Chatticus Finch | 09 Jun 2014 5:43 a.m. PST |
Oooh I like a lot of the options being shown here! I think Khurasan and Rebel between them can cover most of your requirements. Critical Mass also has a few options that may be worth exploring – however I doubt anyone has any twin-cannon tanks that could cover the look of a Siege tank, although Khurasan's super-heavy could make a viable cover for now. As for the MLRS, a 'normal' MLRS from QRF with a bit of a sci-fi mix could cover it perhaps? |
Chatticus Finch | 09 Jun 2014 5:47 a.m. PST |
The Sarduakar could be played by Khurasan's Corsair battle-dress perhaps? A little bigger than normal infantry (okay, a LOT bigger!) but hey, they're the Emperor's best! |
