Why do we accept a lot of abstractions on the wargames table and are bothered by others? This could be called the 'flying snowman' effect:

In general, I agree with what you said in the blog post. I might add that games which prominently feature vehicles (whether tanks, ships or aircraft) tend to get bogged down in meaningless detail. It doesn't matter why B turret isn't firing, it's enough to know that it is inoperative. Performing a chandelle in a Sabrejet shouldn't feel like sailing the Bounty around Cape Horn. Know what's important to your simulation, and what is not.

Weapons range vs. Move distance vs. Turn timeframe. I'm looking at you, 40k and Flames of War.
