I was researching a possible visit to Kaliningrad and happened upon this:

It's apparently constructed using a Komsomolets torpedo boat and situated near the House of Soviets. Makes a change from tanks!

Petropavovsk-Kamchatsky has a naval memorial like that too.

Grand Dragon27 Nov 2013 10:40 a.m. PST

The House of Soviets in Kaliningrad is perhaps the ugliest , most soulless building in the world.

GD, I wonder if that is a result of a deliberate attempt to avoid any religious influences. As I look at it (after your remark) it reminds me of what somebody might have pictured in all our cities in the future, but in reality, it is a set piece for a dystopian future.

Karlingrad? You mean occupied Konigsberg.

Flecktarn27 Nov 2013 2:49 p.m. PST

"Occupied Konigsberg"? It is part of Russia now, thanks to crazy Adolf and his gang of incompetents.

We started a war and lost it; there can really be no complaints about the status of Kaliningrad.

"To the victor go the spoils".

No, Canuckistan, I meant Kaliningrad, a country that is as 'occupied' as the land now called Canada. Thanks for your rational interjection, Jurgen.

Now let's leave the politics for the Blue Fez. I'm thinking of making this in 15mm as a terrain piece. Has anybody done something similar?

There is a front part of a submarine near a crossroads in Lorient (France)…

Canuckistan Commander28 Nov 2013 4:30 a.m. PST

Not sure how that is politics. It is a military fact. Anyway sorry that cause you make some vague personal insult. I assume you are alluding that we members of the Canadian military are oppressing the poor natives of Canada? If gentlemen were to indicate a forum I would be happy to demonstrate how 11% of GDP goes to 1% of our total population.
