SPOILER ALERT!

"For better or for worse, The Walking Dead isn't Lost. So this episode – where the Governor rises to power yet again in a new group of survivors — is the closest we're going to get to an origin story flashback. How did the Governor transform from mild-mannered office drone he once claimed to be into the despot who ruled Woodbury with an iron fist?

Chances are, he started out as a pretty decent guy, at least by outward appearances. After he's invited into Martinez's camp (a decision that stretches credulity under any circumstances, but okay), he seems every part the family man "Brian Heriot" – quiet, competent, nice. Maybe, he thinks, he can actually be Brian Heriot. Maybe somehow that will actually work. Of course, the episode also opens an ongoing chess game between the Governor and his surrogate daughter Meghan, which has naturally become a window into his soul. He advises her that you can't bide your time forever when thinking about the next play. "Sooner or later you gotta make a move."

Good advice for her, for him, for the show itself.

This season has been all about the refusal of the call, as we've watched the two great leaders of the post-apocalypse — Rick and the Governor — attempt to bow out of leadership, only to end up back on their respective thrones. Rick ultimately steps up because he can't abide the creeping moral flexibility of certain people in his group; the Governor steps up because he can't abide having someone as morally inflexible as Rick in charge. (Which is to say that when he murders Pete, he murders Rick, by proxy.) Both of them think their diametrically opposed actions – kicking Carol out of the group, killing Pete – are absolutely necessary. That really, they had no other choice…"

Thanks god for the governor in the show!
I began to think which group I would choise for survival…
Some time ago I have not doubt, Rick one… but now…

The show wants to set up the governor as the antihero, but he is just too much of a psychopath – sociopath (not quite sure, or both).
To me the Governor had the right basic plan at Woodbury. Secure a refuge and grow – allowing a greater level of specialization. You need a Warlord. Willing to fight to protect the population, but willing to expand the "county"

The governor is just way too unstable to be whatever the show is trying to set him up to be….
He killed Martinez in cold blood, for NO reason at all….
he's setting up a new woodbury with these poor people…. and when the assault on the prison comes, its going to be the EXACT same as the woodbury incident.

The governor hasn't changed at all
I liked his theory of "be useful or leave"… but when 8-15 innocent people were gunned down….
no before that actually.. the walker head tank, and zombie daughter..
I lost all respect for the governor.

Haven't watched this episode yet, so I'm not reading the body text here.

Armand, please don't post spoiler info IN THE TITLE of the thread.

Seconded. I'm in the UK so a few days behind. Putting spoilers in the title is thoughtless to put it mildly

The Gov is nuts. Kills Martinez because he thought he got sloopy (drunk) and was asked to share power. Bad move. Same with Pete. Asked to share power. Dude just snapped at being in charge. I think in real life as an office drone he was the type that thought he was smarter then everyone else. Doing sneaking things around the office to get people in trouble so he can get their job.

Yea, that type of guy. Scary if Carol meets up and joins forces.
