Jim, I put my collection together more than a decade ago using mostly Old Glory 15s. A decade later I still think they're great figures. You can see them painted in diorama form a link |

I rather like the Naismith Design figures from Navwar. |

I would also go with the old glory figures mixed with Essex. Both have separate shields which some will find annoying but they do look good. I've attached a link to some pics from my collection. link Note the command figures are gladiator. I don't think much of most of the gladiator line but the command figs and the casualties are quite nice. |

I'm fond of Gallia Zulus but also like Naismith a lot. |

Leidang, can I ask which manufacturer the supply officer etc came from? Colin |

I don't think there's been a new range of 15mm Zulus for over 20 years and it's starting to show, especially in the lack of well sculpted auxiliary imperial troops. But Blue Moon are meant to be expanding their colonial range to include AZW figures sometime in 2014. Until then, Old Glory and Essex looks like the best bet, despite all those separate shields and spears. |

The Blue Moon Colonial figures are really nice but they are a robust 18mm and not 15mm. They're a great line of figures if one is starting a new collection from scratch but for my tastes they're not at all compatible with 'true' 15's. Not a criticism, just meant as an observation. |

Ragbones, I know what you mean, and some of the Sudan figures Blue Moon have produced are not as well detailed or posed as the best of their other ranges – don't know why, exactly, but somehow the quality seems well below that of their recent Napoleonic cavalry somehow – different sculptor maybe? The "Warpaint" BM figures I've got scale well with the 15mm Minifigs Old West stuff, but are significantly larger than the Peter Pig 'true 15s'. It's a good indication that a new range is needed when Gallia/Warrior (a favourite of mine as well) or Naismith figures are still as good as it gets – I've been nagging Martin at Peter Pig to extend his PITS range to include the AZW but it seems to be falling on deaf ears at the moment. |
