Very nice! I don't suppose the Department of Archives and History are selling a poster showing the flags that I could buy over the Internet, are you? Grelber |

Very informative blogs, thank you. So, whilst theres no such thing as a 'typical' Regiment, would a typical Regiment, say 500 or so blokes, conceivalby both carried a National 'Stars n Bars' flag, and one of these State flags, and also some of these Company Flags on campaign? |

Possible yes. Typical no. At least that is my impression. |

Grelber -- Not to my knowledge but I passed your suggestion along to the Director of our Museum Division and her collection custodian as well as to our Public Information Officer. If anything comes of it, I will make a separate announcement her on TMP. But don't hold your breath. Sparker -- As far as I know, most Confederate units only carried a single flag. It could be the "standard" stars and bars battle flag, a state flag, or one of the myriad of other flags that were used. Unless a regiment's flag survived both the war and the intervening 150 years, one will probably never know. The national flags were almost never carried by combat units. They were typically flown at forts and other installations. Jim |
