"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has always been chock full of comic-book Easter eggs, but last night's episode — directed by Jonathan Frakes — was its first official intersection with Marvel's cinematic universe and a follow-up to its latest superhero blockbuster, Thor: The Dark World. It also marks something Marvel fans have been waiting for since the series premiere: a sign that this show could actually get good. Crossovers are often the weakest points of series, but this is just the opposite, taking S.H.I.E.L.D. up a notch from "has potential" to "solidly good television." The show has been gradually building up from a less than impressive start, and "The Well" is a cut above the episodes that precede it. It's also an ideal television chaser to Thor: The Dark World: related, but not derivative, and easily able to stand on its own (although, seriously, is there anyone watching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. who hasn't yet seen The Dark World?). "The Well" opens with the team in Greenwich, literally cleaning up after the explosive final battle of Thor 2. The idea that the human powers-that-be of superhero universes tend to fall into the roles of clean-up and damage control has been a theme on S.H.I.E.L.D. from the start, but never quite this pronounced. ("It would be nice if, for once, Thor and his people would send down the god of Cleaning Up After Yourself," Coulson laments.) The story propelling "The Well" follows the same theme: what happens in the margins of the Marvel universe when the central players have left

what I've watched so far was as uncomic book as you could get. BORING!!!! |

I have faith in the show, will continue to watch. |

I like it – I will continue to watch. I think part of the problem was that people were expecting the "WHAM-BAM-BOOM!!" of the Superhero Universe – like Avengers for TV. But that's not what SHIELD is about – they ARE the "grunts" of the Superhero Universe. They are the ones who go around cleaning up after the Superheroes, or doing preliminary investigations to determine if a Hero is warranted. |

I have been watching Arrow faithfully since its debut last year and Agents of Shield this year. Arrow has been fantastic and has been kicking Agents of Shield`s butt. I haven`t seen this week`s episodes nor Thor: The Dark World as I was hoping to get in to see it this weekend. So it looks like watch Thor first then Agents of Shield. Sounds like Saturday is movie day!! I did enjoy the episode with the fire guy and I have felt that Shield is slowly improving in quality over the last couple of episodes but it has been very slow to date but I have enjoyed it just not nearly as much as Arrow. Just my own opinion. Regards, Hitman |

Grunts can be exciting too. There's a long history of exciting spy shows on television that don't involve superpowers, Agents of SHIELD is not one of them. Furthermore, half the cast is
well
not even likable. |

I have been warming to this show as it progresses. Whedon usually builds slowly but patience is rewarded. |

Thing is shows like Covert Operations and Burn Notice have more comic book interesting bits in it then this show does. |

I've liked what I have seen of SHIELD. I think it's kind of ridiculous that people expect a show to be great from episode one. That hasn't often happened with many of (what turned out to be) my favorite shows. It takes a while to get settled in and develop things but many viewers and all the networks have very unreasonable expectations about how TV programs should perform. Give Whedon a chance for a change!! |

I've been watching since the start, and I like it. Definitely getting better as the characters become more developed. |

Skye is annoying! Ugh! I really dont have a problem with the rest of the cast though it would be cool to see Black Widow, Hawkeye, or Fury do a cameo from time to time. |

I was about to give up on it until this episode. Hopefully, it will keep improving. Haven't seen Thor yet. Maybe this Tuesday. |

I've enjoyed it since episode one. It has it's flaws (much of the cast) but Clark Gregg as Coulson is great and is a solid anchor while the rest find their feet. Worth watching for him alone. Of course, the cast problems are really the writer's problems trying to flesh out stereotypes, the actors themselves are actually fine. They're succeeding, slowly but surely. I've even started to like FitzSimmons. |
