I'm not a massive fan of Star Wars (love the original trilogy and the Clone Wars tv series, prequel trilogy is pants, never read a SW novel) but was considering grabbing some of the omnibuses. As the Clone Wars tv series is so good I thought I'd try something from that period or earlier. So, has anybody tried these? Are they any good? It would be anything from Rise of the Empire onwards. See here for reference. link |

I don't know much about the EU or the timeline, but long ago I read Dark Empire and I thought it was a good story with great art. I have no idea if it fits your criteria :) link |

I have read Dark Empire and most of Tales of the Jedi. Both of those are very good. |

Just read the Thrawn series books by Zahn :) The EU books are kinda hit or miss. I usually grab anything by Zahn, Anderson, and Stover. There are a few others that I gravitate towards but I do listen to a lot of them as audio books. I generally hate anything clone wars era. The first few commando books are really good but the 501st one didn't grab me. I never finished it. Old republic stuff is interested. The sith books are nice. Explains the origin of the rule of two. I'm not liking the new series because its too jedi centric and frustrating with jedi knights losing their minds and 4 or 5 books in they still have no clue whats going on. It's just too much political crap and not enough blaster for me. Oh and the entire X-wing series is really good. However, I also love a star wars story that has little to no jedi in it and wedge is centric to those. He is probably my favorite character and hands down the best pilot in the universe. Anyone who can beat him cheats with the force but he can still hold his own against the likes of that whiny farmboy. |
