"By now, you¡¯ve likely seen Thor: The Dark World. (If you haven¡¯t, then you might want to click onto another story to avoid being spoiled.) Perhaps, like many movie-goers without an extensive background in Marvel comics, you enjoyed the Asgardian adventure, but came away with one big question: What was going on with Benicio Del Toro in that end credits sequence? Don¡¯t worry, WIRED readers ¡ª we¡¯re here to help.

That scene was the first appearance of Del Toro as the Collector, a cosmic entity obsessed with, you guessed it, collecting things that¡¯s been around in the comics since 1966¡äs Avengers #28. As such, it¡¯s connective tissue between Thor: The Dark World and next summer¡¯s Guardians of the Galaxy, where the Collector will play a larger role as one of the villains of the movie.

More important, however, is the conversation the Collector has with Sif and Volstagg. As the two Asgardians hand over the Aether to the Collector, they explain that it¡¯s because it would be ¡°unwise¡± to keep the Aether in such close proximity to the Tesseract, aka the cosmic McGuffin behind both Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers. This, we¡¯re told, is because the Tesseract isn¡¯t just a Tesseract as previously believed. Instead, it¡¯s ¡°another Infinity Stone,¡± just like the Aether…"

Armand, are you using an Apple OS or Android? The text is very hard to read in many places, which I believe to be apostrophes and the like.

So the movies are getting to be like the superhero comics I read as a kid… where you were missing large chunks of story unless you also bought the footnoted issues of other lines… so better watch all the movies if you want them to make sense?
