Would a 1/100th or 1/72nd scale model of German Flakpanzer I ausf. A be worth/useful to anyone?

This is what the 1/100th scale prototype of it looks like:

Flakpanzer

The idea behind is to take advantage of our already manufactured plastic Panzer I ausf. A for also providing a variant with a few supplementary resin and white metal parts:

Flakpanzer parts

Model kit would consist of 8 parts to be made in resin or white metal as said, besides of the 6 compulsory plastic parts for lower hull and running gear (only 4 of which depicted above).

Flakpanzer concept

A couple of white metal WWII German crewmen might also be deviced too.

So, may I make it?

Regards,
Lluís

Yes make it!

Tarleton10 Nov 2013 9:37 a.m. PST

Even though its numbers were limited, I'm sure it will appeal to wargamers for the Eastern Front upto and including Stalingrad.

The Ausf F "Little Tiger" and Ladrungleger likewise.

This has to be the first time I hear of one of those. Not really a surprise, with a production run of only 24.

Probably not of particular interest for me, though it looks sort of cute on its own way. It may be an obscure item, but it is an obscure WWII German item, so you can probably expect to sell a few copies.

If you want to go looking for something with more commercial potential, what about the Panzer I variants mounting 4.7 cm anti-tank gun or 15 cm infantry gun?

…what about the Panzer I variants mounting 4.7 cm anti-tank gun or 15 cm infantry gun?

Well, I had to select a starting point or another…

Griefbringer10 Nov 2013 10:41 a.m. PST

On another note, does that vehicle mount for 20 mm FlaK differ much from ordinary ground mount?

If you are going to the effort of making the gun and crew in sufficient detail, perhaps you could also make a regular ground mount version? It might only take a bit of extra work.

That way, you could also sell it as a part of the SCW range, since those seem to have been supplied to the nationalist side in some numbers. Though for that you would also need to make a couple of Spanish gunners.

(And no, I probably would not be buying one. Just throwing ideas around for now.)

Griefbringer,

As far as I know, this variant was developed only after the Battle of France, so it could not have been supplied to Franco-ist Spain during SCW.

Was it perhaps sold to post-war Spain, along with the already known Pz IV G and StuG III?

Contrarily to my initial expectations, that consisted of also using the regular Pz I upper hull, it seems that tank superstructure was heavily modified in order to fit the Flak onto it. Therefore, I guess the gun itself experienced little modification --if any.

deephorse10 Nov 2013 11:44 a.m. PST

If you make it in 1/72 then I'll certainly buy it.

Tarleton10 Nov 2013 11:48 a.m. PST

Luis,

I think what Greifbringer meant was why not make the ground mount for the 20mm flak and sell that as a seperate item. I would'nt imagine it to be much more work, you've done most of the work on the gun already.

Oh true, I forgot further developing my latest message paragraph into its ultimate aim, that was no other than guessing that little would be needed, apart from just making the standard ground mount. Shall look into it.

With such ground mount, I might certainly include it in our just started SCW figures range. grin

I would definitely buy a few in 1/100 scale!

Damon.

David Manley10 Nov 2013 2:18 p.m. PST

They'd be handy for the imagi-nation extension to my SCW collection, certainly

Faustnik pt10 Nov 2013 2:51 p.m. PST

Do it in 1:72, and I will get some :-)

Do it in 1/56 scale and I would buy it.

Madmike6210 Nov 2013 5:44 p.m. PST

Yes I been waiting for this version.

Leadgend10 Nov 2013 6:56 p.m. PST

In 1:100 scale it would be useful as a "modelling" substitute for armoured SdKfz10/5 in FOW.

I would be more interested in a proper tropicalised PzIA model in normal and Flammpanzer variants for use with early DAK forces.

Gaming Models has an Ausf B (with 5 road wheels)in 1:100, it's probably a mistake from their part or where there any field conversions made?
It's another reason to do a proper ausf A model anyhow.

Anything in 20mm useful.

Anything in 15mm useless.

I treat AA vehicles pretty generically, but it's fun to have different ones available.

Baycee15 Nov 2013 10:13 a.m. PST

15mm AA plastics are always nice!

No arguing 'bout scales is necessary, folks. Prototypes of both 1/100 and 1/72 versions have already been made wink

Gottmituns20520 Nov 2013 3:51 a.m. PST

If interested I'll happily paint your prototype and add a battlefront 20mm gunner for free so you can get your customers an idea of what it'd look like painted.

e-mail me at my blog panzerwerksstudio.blogspot.co.uk and we can get this rolling.

Thanks!

Disco Joe16 Feb 2014 4:26 p.m. PST

So Lluis any chance of doing this in 1/56 scale?

Rod I Robertson26 Feb 2014 9:23 a.m. PST

Good news for both 1/72 and 1/100 users: both versions are about to be released, between April and May.

As for an eventual 1/56 version: not at a short term, sadly.

poiter5010 Mar 2014 7:08 p.m. PST

That is great news. My proposed Barbarossa forces will love 2-4 of them.
