Hi

I turned my back on the Napoleonic period for a while and missed this book when it was published – more fool me. It is now out of print and 2nd hand copies appear to be as rare as hens teeth.

I have spoken with the publishers and they tell me it will be reprinted next year along with Vol 2, which is better than a poke in the eye.

If, like me, you want a copy next year I suggest you drop them a line here -

enquiries at kentrotman dot com

If enough people ask, maybe they will bring forward the printing date.

Dear Pete
I have just sent Volume 2 to the printers and it is expected in 4-6 weeks time. It covers mainly the Westphalian and the Confederation of the Rhine Regiments.

Volume 1 is expected to follow in the new year,
Stephen

I would be interested in both volumes should they again become available.

Where is best to watch for them? Any projected price points?

Cheers,

The Bandit

Both books are £40.00 GBP Both should be availble in late December. The printers have had both books for about a month. Normally it is 6-8 weeks but there is the Christmas serge of work.

You could ask Richard Brown of Ken Trotman Ltd directly through his Facebook page.

SMITH (DIGBY) NAPOLEON'S GERMAN DIVISION IN SPAIN VOLUME 2: THE GERMANS IN CATALONIA 1808-1813. 288pp., 18 colour plates, over 50 b/w illustrations of uniforms, flags etc., 7 maps, 12 orders of battle, 6 tables. Late 2013 (possibly early 2014).This second volume of the woes of the Germans in Spain concentrates on those unfortunate enough to have been thrown into the mincing machine of Catalonia and, in particular, the worst-managed operations of the entire peninsular war: the French sieges of Girona. This city was to become the grave of almost the entire German contingent and many others besides. Extracts from the diaries of participants in this grim fiasco give a totally chilling glimpse into the horrors of siege warfare. In contrast, reports of the operations of Spanish regiments, who acted together with Royal Naval support of the eastern coast of Spain open a window onto the world of highly mobile raids into the French lines of communication there, which helped tie down many thousands of French troops, who should have been conquering the remaining free areas of southern and eastern Spain. Includes 11 colour plates by Bob Marrion of uniforms, based on Ludwig Scharf's interpretations from on-the-spot sketches £40.00 GBP

SMITH (Digby) NAPOLEON'S GERMAN DIVISION IN SPAIN VOLUME ONE: NASSAU, BADEN, FRANKFURT DUTCH & HESSEN-DARMSTADT TROOPS, THEIR REGIMENTAL HISTORY, UNIFORMS & ORGANISATION. 290 pages, colour uniform plates & maps. 2012. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS REPRINTING DUE 2013 £40.00 GBP

Much to my surprise, I was able to get a copy of this great book earlier today. Waterstones in Camberly had what it appears was possibly the last remaining 'retail' copy in the UK, so I duly swooped …..

Now I just need to recharge the bank account for Vol II !
