The new Perry releases have got me wondering where I can get a decent listing of Rhinebund units that fought in Spain and when. Also, which units used French uniform at one time or another. The Perry figures certainly cover a lot of bases but I'm aware they don't include some nations that were in Spain, Hesse-Darmstadt for example (I think they wore French uniform anyway). I'm aware of the existence of one or more combined Regiments/Battalions – a guide to when a from whom these were formed would also be good. |

Which Rhinebund units are you after Trajanus? |

To me the whole point of painting Confederation regiments is because I'm bored of painting French. Unless you wanted to know so you could avoid them

For Hesse-Darmstadt in 1809 or 1810 they were issued French style shako with white metal plate bearing the Hessian rampant Lion and red centre cockade. Before this a Bicorne was worn. Blue jacket with yellow cuffs and lapels with red turnbacks. A colourful unit! |

Jack Gill published a good history of the Rhinebund units in Spain in his "Vermin, Scorpions and Mosquitoes". This was published as a chapter in "The Peninsular War: Aspects of the Struggle for the Iberian Peninsula" – general editor – Ian Fletcher – published 1998. Copies can be obtained on Amazon. Rod |

Here's a few leads: link link (not sure this is working – I can't get to it from work, but then they block all sorts of random websites) And I think there's some organizational information on the Perry web site, is there not? |

Thanks for that. I assume that the Westphalians would be dressed in French style uniform but white, as per Central Europe? |

Not Confederation, but if you want some variety in your 'French' army, don't forget the Regiment Irlandaise (2 bttn), the Hanoverian Legion (2 bttn plus chasseurs), the Swiss regiments and the Regt de Prusse. (There may be others) Pete |

The biggest problem with the multi contingent Regiments will be representing a correct looking proportion of each uniform. BTW: Forgot to ask as and where these were single or multiple battalion regiments? |

All The Perry CofR troops look fantastic and will be a great addition to any collection. At the moment I'm committed with a number of projects, including a Waterloo re-fight for 2015, Peninsular Spanish and 1813-15 Prussians so my CofR will have to wait! In my "French" army I'm currently rocking Neapolitans and Isembourg at the moment Next I've got the Irish Legion planned and some Swiss Thanks F |
