Link link Only 7 days left. An interesting mix of modern and semi-future buildings and terrain. His 3rd KS and from what I hear the last two went off very well. Thoughts? |

I am in for the whole deal. He is past the funding goal and $80 USD from the first stretch goal. Very nice looking stuff. Also saw the new Warlord Judge Dredd stuff that will work well with these. Lost Pict |

Nice. In for a whole table too. |

One of these days I'll figure out why my kickstarted failed and ones like this bring in $6 USDk
Its cool but the paint jobs are lower quality then mine and the detail is a lot less. Mine was cheaper so maybe that was it. I needed more backers or something. One of these days, I'll figure out what special sauce I need or just give up on buildings all together. MDF only buildings are a lot easier to paint to an ok level so maybe that is my biggest issue. |
Moe the Great | 06 Nov 2013 12:24 p.m. PST |
@CorSec Your paint jobs were better, a bit interesting but better. In fact to me it looks like a lot of your detail was lost in the pain job or better, a lot of the details came from the paint job. having quickly looked at your KS I think i would have like to see things un-painted. (At least a pic or two) I know this is Impudents third KS and he has followers now. Maybe start smaller and go from there. My $.02 USD |
CorSecEng | 06 Nov 2013 12:34 p.m. PST |
Well I can't do unpainted because I have yet to figure out how to photograph white on white
My etched details don't burn in like the MDF guys. I'm just melting styrene. People initially thought the sides were blank and called them scratch built. It's kinda been the bane of my designs right now. I show CGI renders and people want physical. I show physical and they look bland. I show painted and the detail is washed out. Granted, I really good painter might be able to work with them but I have yet to find one. Blue table would do them for $300 USD+ per building. I tried a local guy and another one from TMP (who didn't do what I told him to). I think my technique is superior and gives the gamers a lot more to build from. So it keeps rolling back to
maybes it's me :) Outsourcing the designs is all but impossible due to the nature of how the kits are created. It would take me a month to get a CGI artist trained up and I'd still have to do the initial frame work myself. This all costs lots of money that I don't have to push a product line that isn't selling so I've reverted to just doing kits that I want and enjoying myself :) |

Point(s) well taken. TO be honest I thought the sides were blank also.. I didn't know. If you give it a try in the future, I would be interested. Also I wonder if there is a way to "ink" or something the buildings in a way to bring out the details/Lines etc. hummmmm

I've tried several methods. It does work to a limited degree but it usually dirties up the rest of the part a lot. I have nit gone back to finish my experiment with water color washes. The idea being that I could wash the entire piece and then after it was dry I could wipe down the flat surfaces to get a better contrast. I've tried magic wash, regular store bought washes, even micro pens. The pens work on but it eats the tip fast and one small mistake and suddenly people think your lines are not straight. I was also going for a cleaner scifi look with that group but offered the accessories pack to jazz them up. However, that was a mistake. I should have also gone crazy on them with detail parts and had that accessories sheet down day 1. These will be releasing here soon. I'd almost be done if my air compressor problems would stop
wasted yet another day today and I still have not fixed it. |

Have you tried crayons? Works with things like plastic tokens and its easy to clean off the residue. Of course I don't know how sensitive your material is to pressure. Bob |
CorSecEng | 06 Nov 2013 4:56 p.m. PST |
Hmm
. I have not tried that. They are rather sensitive. It's only 0.020" thick styrene but I might give it a go and see what happens. Most of the time the styrene is completely supported by an MDF frame so its only sensitive to punctures. |

Corsec, I think you're overthinking. Your buildings look fine from a construction standpoint, it's the floorplans I think that fizzled. As 3 dimensional as your stuff may be it is designed for a 2 dimensional battlefield. The things on this Kickstarter DO NOT look any better or worse from a construction standpoint than your stuff, but they are multi-level, with platforms and gantries and catwalks, stuff REAL cities may lack, but sci-fi battles LOVE. Stuff that Infinity players, GW players, and the like will immediately flock to. Look at that pool house. It is made up of complex shapes with all sorts of walkways and balconies and such. Not many people could scratchbuild that, so it's what got the most people going "yeah I need that". The small square buildings? practically no backers. Anybody can put a 4" cube box on the table and point and go "house" Ditto all the terrain bits that individually replicate what was on your kickstarter. What REALLY sold was the "whole table" set. But I think I know why
Look at the table he built. It is an interesting play surface that would game well. It looks NOTHING like any city or town I've been to (who wants a walkway on their roof) but you know what? It would make a tactically INTERESTING battlefield. You could have done that with your components (and if you do so again, i recommend you do) I'm looking REALLY hard at link Not because I'm a big fan of cardboard (I'm NOT) but because there is no way I could build something like that from anything else I could think of. Between the complex shapes, the overhangs and catwalks, the stairs, all of that stuff is HARD to do
And so I'm probably going to throw money at it. Possibly a lot of money, Possibly a little. |

On the topic of "wants" ( well close enough : ), I like terrain that does not need to be painted. The reason I did not go in for the title KS was the need to paint all of that wood and card. I find that the peak of dullness. Assembly is fine. Terrain painting is meh. Go figure. The same idea, silly sci fi catwalks, muilti level buildings, clutter, in even a uniform concrete grey would suit me fine. The really dull part, the basecoast is done. Mind you I do paint wooden buildings, just not many. No interest in painting an entire city. Bob |
Moe the Great | 07 Nov 2013 2:57 p.m. PST |
And that's where I differ
Terrain I can paint
Small eyeballs on 28mm figures? Leave me out. Good thing we all have lots of good terrain to choose from. :) |

Agreed! It is a golden age. |

I think BigNickR really gets to the heart of the appeal of this KS. (I know some of the full table backers really appreciate vertical elements in games.) A point BigNickR did not address is that the Impudent Mortal buildings are equally useful in near future and modern. They are not distinctly sci-fi. Potentially those dreaming of zombie games, superheroes and even modern skirmishes can use the Impudent Mortal terrain with no intention to play sci-fi. |
BigNickR | 08 Nov 2013 6:18 a.m. PST |
You want to know what I'd like to see? some BRUTALIST terrain. in fact I think I'm gonna start a topic on it |
