With the passing of Don Featherstone I got to wondering if anyone knows the whereabouts of this old school author?

I believe Mr. Morchauser died many years ago. He worked as a writer for Look Magazine for many years in the 50s, and then wrote an article on wargaming for Look Magazine in 1960. His book, How to Play Wargames in Miniature, was written in 1962. He seems to have played some games with Gerard de Gre back in the day, but had little else to do with the hobby.

He wrote a book about the WWII attack on the USS Laffey in 1952. If alive, he would have to be in his late 90s. The Wargame book is probably pubic domain at this point. John Curry, who reprints the "Classic" wargame volumes might have more info.

I looked for him a couple of years ago and came to the same conclusion as Repiqueone in that if alive, he would be in his 90s. I can't say for certain that he passed away.

I got his book in 1963 and never looked back.

In the early 90s when I was Historicon Director I attempted to get him to attend the convention as a guest. A dealer had his address and invited him. He declined writing he hadn't been involved in wargaming for "years" and would not feel comfortable as he no longer gamed.

My grandmother saw his book and borrowed it from the main branch of the Brooklyn Public Library, thinking it might interest me. That was around 1977, and I still haven't brought it back.* Thanks again, Grandma! Like vtsaogames, it gave me my start.

*NOTE: A couple of decades later I donated another copy to the same library, together with a copy of "Little Wars", to make amends and salve my guilty conscience.
