Thanks!
All this heads, noses and equiptment are oversized. After I make new dolls, I try sculpt some ones all in true 1:90 scale (except muskets, which cannot be casted in true scale).

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP27 Nov 2013 12:05 a.m. PST

Can't resist. Made molds and cast today all night.

von Winterfeldt27 Nov 2013 3:13 a.m. PST

Yes, that is what I assumed, when cast, that oversized stuff comes up nicely – the head size really looks ok for me.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP27 Nov 2013 6:09 a.m. PST

I sculpt drummer boy with normal head.. will compare, when ready.

Worst casted ones primed..

paulalba27 Nov 2013 1:11 p.m. PST

Looking good Sho,
I'm sure they will sell well. Good luck with them!

von Winterfeldt27 Nov 2013 2:08 p.m. PST

the equipment looks good, I think it has to be sculpted a bit oversize.
They look great already – only the legs seem to be by some of them a bit too short – or like modern trousers where the seat is pulled down, but the whole impression looks great, and will look even better when painted.

Littlearmies29 Nov 2013 10:40 a.m. PST

They look great Sho. Just been painting some AB Spanish this afternoon and these look to have many of the same characteristics – nicely clean sculpting and superb faces. I have a stack of Mr Barton's Russians to paint but I'd happily add a few battalions of your figures to the queue.

Fredloan29 Nov 2013 10:57 a.m. PST

Great work Sho, I wish I had that kind of talent.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP29 Nov 2013 9:17 p.m. PST

Thanks, guys!
But to AB level there are long way to go for me.
AB figures have much sharper and clearer contours, and better anatomy too.

First quick and robust paint for my mass armies.

paulalba30 Nov 2013 8:51 a.m. PST

Looking good, the figure with his arm across chest is my favourite.
Cheers
Paul

Drummer boy. With normal size head and kiwer.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP01 Dec 2013 4:36 a.m. PST

General..

von Winterfeldt01 Dec 2013 5:00 a.m. PST

the drummer looks good as well, in case however you like your figures to blend well with AB – also at AB the heads are a bit oversized and when painted – as you show with your painted infantry, the impression of the figures is excellent, and that is what counts (in my view)

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP01 Dec 2013 5:19 a.m. PST

For compare. Right figure become standard bearer.

I like both.. oversized and normal. Hard to choice, what better. Oversized is easier to sculpt, no need for measures.

von Winterfeldt01 Dec 2013 6:01 a.m. PST

go for the easier way ;-))

Eclipsing Binaries01 Dec 2013 3:20 p.m. PST

Your infantry look great so I would make the drummer match what you've already done. The general is looking really interesting already.

Sho

What do you sculpt them from?

F

paulalba01 Dec 2013 4:33 p.m. PST

I would be happy to add a few battalions of your Russians to my army Sho.
Cheers
Paul

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP01 Dec 2013 5:48 p.m. PST

General will be Kutuzov himself.

"What do you sculpt them from?"
You mean – what material I use?
Tamiya Epoxy Putty.

Paul, this is nice to hear, especially as I know, that your battalions are as big as my entire army. :)

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP01 Dec 2013 7:14 p.m. PST

Kutuzov takes shape..

paulalba01 Dec 2013 7:29 p.m. PST

Lol, true!

your big K is coming together well!

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP02 Dec 2013 8:35 a.m. PST

Bagration

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP02 Dec 2013 7:28 p.m. PST

Faces worked out,,

von Winterfeldt04 Dec 2013 3:27 a.m. PST

Great sculpting – good research as well, showing Barclay in full dress – as he fought at Borodino

Eclipsing Binaries04 Dec 2013 9:30 a.m. PST

I just tried using green stuff to add a bicorne hat with a plume to an Austrian figure to make him into an artilleryman. I don't think it was very successful. I am even more impressed by the level of detail in your sculpts after my own attempt at a simple 15mm conversion.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP07 Dec 2013 11:32 a.m. PST

I try all this generals sculpt as they were dressed at Borodino.
Bagration ready now..

Redcurrant07 Dec 2013 2:39 p.m. PST

How many generals/commanders do you intend to do for your Russians?

I already have your Murat figures and look forward to these becoming available.

All wing, corps and army commanders. Chiefs of Staff and ADC.
May be some can be doubled because similarity but 18 figures are planned at first.

And after this the French ones too.

paulalba07 Dec 2013 4:55 p.m. PST

Sho my friend I'm worried on the thickness and length of bagrations left leg compared to the result of his body.
Cheers
Paul

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP08 Dec 2013 6:20 a.m. PST

You are absolutely right. This is "big head" syndrome – big head, big hands.. and legs seems small.
I straighten the left hand and amputate the right one, how now the legs seem?

von Winterfeldt08 Dec 2013 6:53 a.m. PST

i don't know, the legs appear too short , they end up even above the belly of the horse, in case I compare to Barcaly or Murat – this is different in those figures – why not make the legs longer and keep the rest – which looks ok for me.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP08 Dec 2013 9:03 a.m. PST

The same confusing problem as with infantry.
All dolls I made in 1:100 scale.
Murat, as big man, was correct and others supposed to be smaller. But when comparing with AB scale (1:90), Murat turns to shorter man.

Barclay was tall man too, and I use Murat's doll for him. Right choise for AB scale.

Bagration, as short man, get smaller doll.
But as with infantry, when I try compare height with AB ones with oversized elements (easy way ;) ), this led to the big heads, positioned too high from legs, following big hands and etc.

On the other hand, for my humble skills, sculpting tools and used materials, this heads and faces dimensions are best fitted. Smaller faces loses all sharpness.

But I have one more trick in reserve to visually extend the left leg. Will resculpt now..

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP08 Dec 2013 1:19 p.m. PST

New version..

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP10 Dec 2013 2:50 p.m. PST

New infantrymen on worktable..

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP16 Dec 2013 10:19 a.m. PST

Faces. Flag bearer looks a bit strange, must be resculpted.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP20 Dec 2013 4:56 a.m. PST

All bunch at moment..

paulalba20 Dec 2013 2:08 p.m. PST

On the whole Sho, very nice. A few things but im not a sculptor so not for me to comment. My favourites are tge walking officer, the trooper with his arm across his chest next to drummer the mounted guy with hat held high and kutuzov is coming together well.

Eclipsing Binaries21 Dec 2013 4:38 a.m. PST

Wonderful!! That looks like a professional range.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP21 Dec 2013 7:07 p.m. PST

Thanks!
I am not a sculptor also, but I try.

Right wing commander Miloradovich beginned and a guy with separately casted musket.

von Winterfeldt22 Dec 2013 1:08 a.m. PST

Your approach with the musket already at the dolly – where revolutionary and by that you produced in my view the best shouldered poses I ever did see.

Eclipsing Binaries22 Dec 2013 10:39 a.m. PST

"I am not a sculptor". Wrong. You are a very good sculptor.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP24 Dec 2013 7:53 p.m. PST

Merry Christmas!
Czar's infantry is ready and I wait for shipment of silicone for making molds.

von Winterfeldt25 Dec 2013 12:20 a.m. PST

they are looking very impressive, maybe you could also do an NCO?

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP25 Dec 2013 4:46 a.m. PST

This is possible.
I have one free slot in command markers set, but I think, that for russians it's better to have the second flagbearer instead of NCO?
But I intend to do one extra set with different unmounted officiers, may be there are the right place for NCO?

von Winterfeldt25 Dec 2013 7:26 a.m. PST

I find it a pity that usually NCOS get ignored, we have officers on foot and on horse, drummers, colour bearers – but not those who form the back bone of the army – NCOs

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP06 Jan 2014 9:51 p.m. PST

paulalba07 Jan 2014 8:06 p.m. PST

Well done Sho!!!

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP07 Jan 2014 10:56 p.m. PST

Thanks! :-)
I am not happy with left two. Sometimes will replace them..
but now I must sculpt one NCO and two casualties,
to fulfil the command markers set.

paulalba09 Jan 2014 3:07 p.m. PST

So if we buy a set of them they will be limited editions???

What date you looking at for a release of your line battalion figures Sho? I've found new paints for my Russians and would like to try them out.
Cheers
Paul
