Start with new sculpts. First steps.
Czarist generals..

..and Czar's infantry.

Sparker30 Oct 2013 6:22 p.m. PST

Thanks for posting mate. Are these new sculpts for a line you are considering?

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP30 Oct 2013 7:08 p.m. PST

Yes, they are.
Full corps commander's line and Czar's infantry with real shakos for Borodino.

von Winterfeldt30 Oct 2013 11:49 p.m. PST

great project – superb sculting – I am looking to see the Russian's emperors infantry in the correct shako ;-))

Sho Boki

Maybe you should place the cartridge boxes a bit lower so you have a distance between back pack and box.
They are almost as high as the hip, difficult to reach with the arm when trying to get cartridges out.

Hi Sho,
Best of luck with your venture. I'll be looking to buy some when complete.
Regards
Paul

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP31 Oct 2013 8:06 a.m. PST

Thanks, guys!
von Winterfeldt, you may be right. I will sculpt back pack for one miniature today, then the problem may cleared.

Littlearmies31 Oct 2013 12:30 p.m. PST

Best of luck with your project Sho – I was very impressed with your slightly mental multiple Murat project! Sorry to be ignorant but "real shakos for Borodino"?

And if we could put in requests – I'd like to see some Russian 1812 infantry in greatcoat that would work with AB figures.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP31 Oct 2013 1:41 p.m. PST

Thanks, Littlearmies!
I don't like greatcoats, because they are too simple to paint for me and not very colorful.
But if you wish, I may do some for you.
About correct shako may read here..
theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=323817

von Winterfeldt, here are figure with back pack. Both pack and box stay on little higher position than on AB figures.

von Winterfeldt31 Oct 2013 1:54 p.m. PST

You must immagine that the soldiers has to grap to the rearand get one cartridge out, so I would do it a bit lower

I did the Legion Noire in 28 mm

You are right. Box must be lowered.
Meanwhile some little progress..

von Winterfeldt04 Nov 2013 12:00 a.m. PST

I am admiring your precise sculpting

Eclipsing Binaries04 Nov 2013 4:03 a.m. PST

Sho, I had no plans to start another nation while working on my Austrian army, but I will try and buy as many of your figures as I can. Well done, and thank you for the effort.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP04 Nov 2013 7:25 a.m. PST

Colin, beside generals, I do only russian infantry for Borodino, because AB ones are for later period and all other troops are covered by AB. May be I must sculpt hussars with hanging pelisses too. And thats probably all.

I myself build all french army and his oponents for Wagram, Borodino and Waterloo. For Austrian army I will sculpt helmeted infantry and standing hussars. All other austrians are already painted.

For my infantry I have requirement – 3 figures must stand on block 2cm x 1cm and represent on battlefield 1.200 men in line.

P.S. If you want try all my figures, then some Prussian Towarczys 1806 are available now. My first 18mm sculpted ones for napoleonic.

paulalba07 Nov 2013 3:43 a.m. PST

Hi Sho,
This is some fine work on your borodino Russians. So they have the earlier shako and regular uniform similar to the Perry 28mm option. Will you no doubt be doing officers, drummer etc. Perhaps a mounted officer?

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP08 Nov 2013 7:31 a.m. PST

Yes, Paul. They have regular 1808 shako and uniform. Standard for 1809-1815.
As I try keep it similar and comparable with AB ones, then equiptment are little overscaled.

Officers and drummers are not my primary concern now, because at first I make figures for standard rules. But in deluxe version of rules there will be 1 officer, 1 drummer, 1-2 flagbearers, 2 skirmishers and 2 casualties for every basic unit. As markers.

Mounted officers at first will be as attendants to generals.

paulalba08 Nov 2013 12:36 p.m. PST

Well hopefully you'll get round to the command for larger battalions.

Lion in the Stars08 Nov 2013 12:54 p.m. PST

Those look great!

I'm not sure I'm feeling brave enough to tackle Borodino, but I wish you lots of success with the minis and game!

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP09 Nov 2013 6:33 a.m. PST

Fresh photos..

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP09 Nov 2013 10:47 a.m. PST

Comparing with original.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP09 Nov 2013 6:18 p.m. PST

Barclay de Tolly

paulalba10 Nov 2013 5:15 a.m. PST

I would say Barclay is your best to date Sho.

No can I ask, do you plan a kutuzov figure? Or a couple?

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP10 Nov 2013 6:12 a.m. PST

Yes. Kutuzov and Napoleon and all theirs important generals for Borodino.
Half of Kutuzov are ready..

Little experiment. Models of french and russian shako shapes.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP13 Nov 2013 10:55 a.m. PST

Paul, you convinced me. I begin sculpt officer too..

von Winterfeldt13 Nov 2013 11:47 a.m. PST

lovely faces – be carefull that your legs are not getting too short

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP13 Nov 2013 1:32 p.m. PST

Agree. Fine till the knees. Tibia and fibula do not quite match the femur (at least on his right standing leg anyway)…but I wish I had a fraction of your modelling talent

Eclipsing Binaries15 Nov 2013 3:02 a.m. PST

These are looking really good, Sho. I'm surprised you aren't being approached by one of the mini companies to do their sculpts.

I'm just at this moment trying to work up the courage to paint one of your Murat figures. Can't decide which one to go for first.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP15 Nov 2013 3:50 p.m. PST

It's because nobody know about me. This is my first few sculpts. Everybody of them are learning process.

If you cannot choice Murat, paint Ney, the one with sword.. ;-)
Ney is not so valuable for practice, his right hand stand little weird.

ferg98115 Nov 2013 6:01 p.m. PST

I think Sho may have a career change coming up soon…

paulalba15 Nov 2013 6:31 p.m. PST

Lovely work as always sho!

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP15 Nov 2013 8:19 p.m. PST

Little progress..

von Winterfeldt16 Nov 2013 12:21 a.m. PST

I love your approach – research combined with huge talent to produce nice figures filling gaps of other producers.

Eclipsing Binaries16 Nov 2013 3:29 a.m. PST

One of the Murats is a Ney????? Which one?

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP16 Nov 2013 1:36 p.m. PST

Von Winterfeldt, at starting from scratch this probably will be the best strategy. Everybody will be happy, win-win situation.

Eclipsing Binaries, the one with long boots and sword – universal general. Murat usually wear sabre and soft boots.

von Winterfeldt20 Nov 2013 2:57 a.m. PST

incredible detail even the lock of the musket, keep the pan closed though ;-))

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP20 Nov 2013 3:03 a.m. PST

Next infantryman ready..
They are a bit grotesque.

von Winterfeldt20 Nov 2013 3:36 a.m. PST

The cause is most likley the too short lower legs or the legs allthogether are a bit too short.
You may review your dollies and change that part for future figures

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP20 Nov 2013 1:26 p.m. PST

Don't agree. I think, that the head is too big and heavy and on too high position.
Body height and equiptment length is 1:100, Widening, head and details are 1:70.

von Winterfeldt21 Nov 2013 5:58 a.m. PST

I cannot agree, when you compare with AB side to side, the details – equipment and head size look quite ok, the lower legs seem to be a fraction too short, which of course in that scale has a dramatic effect.
So all in all the body is a tad too tall and the legs a bit too short, the rest is ok in my view

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP21 Nov 2013 8:57 a.m. PST

I will prepare new dolls.

Third private ready.

Eclipsing Binaries21 Nov 2013 10:41 a.m. PST

Rather than trying to sort the length of the legs on new dolls, would it be possible to try and raise the crotch to give the legs a little more length? I'd like to see the finished models next to comparable miniatures before judging them further.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP21 Nov 2013 10:51 a.m. PST

I finish the officer at first and then make new comparable picture with AB figures.

New dolls are necessary anyway. For comparing with AB figures I must follow 1:90 scale, not 1:100 as I planned before.

Sho Boki Sponsoring Member of TMP21 Nov 2013 2:02 p.m. PST

Officer..

and picture for compare..

paulalba22 Nov 2013 12:33 a.m. PST

Hi Sho, Von W, I don't like to take away from the fact that sho has sculpted excellent figures but I think you are both right.

sho the head of the middle marching figure looks slightly to large in some angles and also in the line up. to my eye the torso Looks a little short and slender for the 1st 2 figs regarding equipment and head and makes the legs hard to judge.

However the officer and the guy with arm across look great and all far better than I could do myself. Keep going sho as every effort brings a better success!

Take away Mr Bartons range and you have something close to the best Russians around. Like you I paint a few of AB figures sho and you pick up little details like the size of hands, sharpness of detail such as shako visor, edges and packs.

Hope you don't mind me adding my thoughts sho, great efforts in all!
Regards
Paul

Thanks, Paul.
Now I learned, how to cutt off excess materials after sculpting. Big heads and noses now are little smaller.

bgbboogie22 Nov 2013 8:27 a.m. PST

I Like the addition touch with cords over the top, I'll buy em!!

von Winterfeldt22 Nov 2013 12:03 p.m. PST

I like your heads and noses and even more – your equipment, it is superb.
I think when getting those masters cast – the cast figures will look excellent.
It clearly shows that you are into the topic and that you have a keen eye for detail
