I assume we are not talking about the 1976 set of napoleonic rules that I have. They have one in it.

Please, don't go before Empire II, you will thank me later!

Old technology. There are better games out there

Rudysnelson31 Oct 2013 4:42 a.m. PST

Disagrre on the old Tech. Rule system design is always based on some prior concepts.
The bucket of dice for Napoleonics were dominant prior to Empire. It was the first modern developed system to return to the matrix concept of combat
I do tend to agree that Empire 1 and 2 were the best. I never played 3 but once and the others never.

Current systems are based on prior systems in some mechanic ways. So the term Old Tech does not apply to game design.

Too detetministic. Little allowance for luck.

As though "old" is bad. There are lots of valid complaints against Empire, "old" is not one.

Cheers,

Empire, Ist Edition, 1975

Pg. 2, Playing Sequence

1. Writing or changing of orders, if any.

2. Change of formation or change of facing.

3. Movement of troops.

4. Artillery fire.

5. Smalls Arms fire (all fire and movement is assumed to be simultaneous but small arms fire is issued after artillery casualties are removed).

6. Close-Action, and Close-Action Results.

What old folks home are you playing at?

G'Day Gents

I have some friends coming over tomorrow who have never played any Napoleonic game.

So as to introduce them into the Napoleonic gaming…I am using Empire I…

And for those who know me…I am a right xxxx about tearing into rules…

But Empire I and Empire II still has their usefulness.

Best Regards
Art
