From what I have been reading, the Soviets weren't planning on meeting NATO in a sparring match as depicted in Red Storm Rising, they planned on using tactical nuclear weapons to blast their way into Germany. It wouldn't have taken long for that to get out of hand. |

tuscaloosa, I have met people who served there in the unit; however, I am now not sure if the whole unit went or just elements. The 'Willi Sanger' was an unusual unit, notable for its loyalty to the regime and directly controlled by the Defence Ministry; much of its history and activities are still unclear. I once asked my father about the 'Willi Sanger' and he refused to discuss it. Jurgen |
