Hello, I am going to spend 10 days in Paris with the wife for our 2-year anniversary. I have a bunch of sites I want to visit including (Army Museum, Medieval Museum, Les Invalide, Versaille, the Leuvre).

I was wondering what other sites I could visit, particularly Napoleonic ones.

I look forward to seeing the resting place of L'Empereur.

I was last in Paris in 2001 but at that time, Rueil-Malmaison made for a great side trip. This was the site of a battle during the FPW and home to Josephine. The Chateau de Malmaison housed an enormous collection of Napoleonic figurines as well as museum. Josephine is buried in the local church.

The local farmer's market and patissieries were quite good too.

You will have a great time in Paris. Just walking around and seeing the architect on the buildings is fantastic. You will also want to check out Notre Dame Cathedral.

Not related to wargaming but you really must visit the D'Orsay!

Plan on a full day at the Invalides.

Plan on a full day at the Invalides.

Or two even. Give yourself some wiggle room (with spouse, group). I thought one would be plenty. frown

Whatever you manage, make the most of it. thumbs up

Cheers,

guinness

Edit – Sorry about the Delete above only a partial message, don't know what happened.

The Musee de la Marine is nice – lots of models. it is just west? across the river from the Eiffel Tower.

We wore ourselves out at the Invalides, just looking at armor (and the WW1 and WW2 stuff). A whole day there is not at all unlikely. But it depends how much your wife can take.

I want to see the air museum next time.

RE Invalides and L'Armee Musee

I spent two days (maybe as day and a half) there on my trip mentioned earlier and I probably could have spent more time. The museum is fantastic and the bookstore was very good.

My wife was really impressed with Musee de L'Armee at Les Invalides but we still still had to rush it by my timescale and skipped many rooms. If you are not getting back there any time soon go by yourself or make a second trip alone. With 10 days you should be good.

Pere Lachaise cemetery has got the tombs of lots of Napoleonic marshals and generals.

The Arc de Triomph has lots to look at.

Thanks for the tips, my plan is to send the wife shopping. It could prove to be an expensive strategy but I will get free reign around Les Invalides.

Pere Lachaise also has Jim Morrison's grave. There is a bus that runs from Pere Lachaise across town to the Louvre that is worth taking as a cheap tour of Paris.

This is a good side trip – Epernay/Verdun. Epernay is good – take a tour of the wineries or the Avenue de Champagne for the Champagne and then toddle over to Verdun (the town is on the Marne River).

Or go to Reims, see the cathedral and marvel at the WWI bullet holes in the facade.

Send wife to Forum des Halles (3 levels of shops underground) and be free for a few days. ;-)
