‘This Isn't Freedom, It's Fear'

"Just in time for the release of Thor: The Dark World and in the thick of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s first season, Marvel has released the first trailer for Captain America: The Winter Soldier to remind us, "Oh, yeah, there's a Captain America movie happening!"

Look, it's not that anyone's forgotten about him, but there's a lot happening in the Marvel Universe and it's hard to keep track. Cap – despite being the first Avenger – often gets overshadowed by the flowing locks of Thor (and Loki), and the swagger of Tony Stark/Iron Man. He, or at least his movie, even got overshadowed by his superhero teammates at Comic-Con International this year – where some of the footage from this trailer screened – thanks to the Avengers: Age of Ultron teaser.

So maybe that's why he seems so at odds with everyone in his next installment. It seems Steve Rogers isn't all that happy with how S.H.I.E.L.D. has been running things, telling Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) "I thought the punishment usually came after the crime" when Fury describes S.H.I.E.L.D.'s plan to stop threats before they happen (you know, like a fusion center). Cap notes that "this isn't freedom – it's fear." This is Captain America in a post-Battle of New York world…"

Ok.

That's just cool.

But stopping Cap's shield toss? Really?

Dan Wideman II24 Oct 2013 1:41 p.m. PST

Ok, WHY does shield keep building helicarriers? Seriously, the things are firemagnets waiting to land on Manhattan.

grin

And…Natasha with longer hair…nice!

Because they look so darn cool?

I'm looking forward to it. The Marvel-verese films have been fairly enjoyable over the past few years.

Yes this will be very good.

Oh i am so in for this.

My thoughts exactly on the helicarriers.
Hell the SHIELD plane in the series cant last a week before a giant hole explodes int he side.

Catching Cap's shield. Well i am thinking Cap had the same "WTH" response. :-)

Who is the Cap shield catching adversary can anyone tell me?

I think it was a line in "Contact," the first rule of government spending is why buy one when you can buy two at twice the cost?

Nice to see The Falcon, he was a longtime partner to Cap.

As for the masked shield-catcher, I have no idea. But I might expect a tie-in to AIM from Iron Man 3…

The bad guy is the Winter Soldier. I don't want to say anything else about him or I'll ruin a surprise.

My complaint against the helicarriers is that it's a special operations platform not a WARSHIP and it shows. The things only exist to deposit small strike teams. their airwing is primarily "multirole" transport aircraft, and a good volume of the internal space is for infantry contingents.

They're less flying aircraft carriers, and more flying LCS's with a small airwing.

Seeing how great a program the LCS is I'm not surprised these things are less than the most effective platform they could be

I don't want to wait till April…. want it now…

Actually…it's a ship that uses comic book tech to fly comic book characters to the site of their comic book adventures. To do so, it employs a Class III artistic license (realism as garnish only). laugh

Seriously, though, it looks like it might be a good movie.
