Just got them and well the barrels don't quite fit in the space provided. Can someone tell me they are supposed to fit? |

I don't have any of those (rather lovely) Ainsty tanks, but it seems that resin bits *not quite* fitting is pretty much the norm across manufacturers. A hobby knife will make short work of any stubborn bits! |

The metal requires a substantial amount of filing in order to fit into the resin turret. It's an extremely snug fit. Or not a fit at all until the filing is done. Looks nice when it is done though. There are a few decent pics provided by John Treadaway on the Slammers Crucible site which can be helpful references too. |

Drilling out the resin would probably be easier than filing metal. |

There was an issue with the barrels (the original sculpt of the barrel collapsed in the mould and had to be remade). I'm hoping Andy has/will fix(ed) this. Having done 16 of the things, I can definately say it took me probably under a minute to do each barrel with a coarse file. But that's stilla quarter ofan hour I didn't get back :( Irritating, I know, but safer than trying to cut the resin. When you give the metal a dozen or so strokes on each side (depending on the coarseness of your file, obviously) they goin a treat and that area you've just been filing is hidden by the resin mantlet so you can afford to be quite brutal.
I did a few at different elevations as well by – in one case – filing some metal away from the barrel rear to enable the gun to raise up high enough. Hope the shots help – oh and one of them has deliberate damage (the multi-coloured discolouration of the iridium). Also link and link John T PS – some of the shots of painting completed the week before Salute are waaaay to close for my comfort but they are what I had todo to get them ready in time! |

That works, thanks JT! I was worried I was just incompetent! In any event, I plan on doing my HS as per the book (dull grey rather than silver). No offense to anyone here, but silver just looks
wrong on a tank
I do like the battle damage, how did you do that? |

With a drill and a scalple for the hole and Tamiya coloured laquer for the colour. Drakes description is, of course, grey. I suspect that I'll never know what colour huge lumps of the metal they are made of oxidises to. John T |
