I've used Veni Vidi Vici transfers to decorate the white stripes on these guys. Who says they have to be used for shields anyway!?

I spot a trend starting. Looks like a professional job.

Thanks for looking, folks. Simon the Big Red Bat has suggested asking someone like Steve at Little Big Men to make appropriate transfers for uses like this. I can also think of Thracian cloaks, Late Roman tunic "badges" (for lack of a better term) and early medieval Germanic cloak borders – there must be plenty of other, similar uses for non-shield transfers. This sort of thing is becoming increasingly popular for 25mm Napoleonics.

I feel that's a great idea Caliban, but the LBM decals aren't really suitable for this being a bit too stiff. I suppose it would have to be really 'soft' waterslide decals like VVV

Thanks, Willie, I hadn't thought of that. The VVV waterslides seem to be working anyway – at least, none of them have fallen off so far!

Never tried it myself but decal softner might help, I'd try it out on a 'spare' first mind you!

I used to use the old Letraset dry transfers intended for making ad copy and such to provide detailed repeat patterns such as checks and diamonds or wavy and looped lines on figures. Unfortunately the digital age has killed that market pretty much.

Use the decals from 25mm lines for flags and horse barding in 15mm for medievals, or the 15mm shield symbols on sails of small scale triremes and such. Need small stars or crosses, try GHQ or similar 1:285 scale decals intended for aircraft or tanks.

Lots of good ideas across scale lines.
