Ghe-O Motors of Romania has created the Rescue — a 3.2 ton truck that makes the original Hummer look like a first-gen Mini. It comes with a gasoline or diesel engine, and the various iterations top out at either 500 hp or 340 hp, respectively. As the name suggests, it's designed to rescue people from any and all situations. Presumably it's also capable of overcoming an army of Martian fighting-machines designed to kill Tom Cruise. Of course it's bigger than a hummer. Humvees are 1.5ton-2.5ton trucks. Well, the milspec Humvees are. The civilian-model Hummers are 1/2ton to 1ton critters, built on a standard GM truck chassis like the Suburban. quite a beast, though. I'm not sure about the airbags to increase buoyancy, since the problem with cars in a flood is when they float away. But otherwise, I can see the fire department and other emergency folks wanting these. For that matter, the military might want them, since there's enough space for a whole (Army) squad. |

I just want to see what happens when Top Gear gets their hands on it and do something crazy with it. They did an episode with the South African version of the MRAP. Oh and that tracked version needs to be in the next James Bond movie. |

I think given the current USG financial situation there are better uses for the money than buying replacements for the HMMV, which works well enough as is

Less curious about the new hardware than I am about where they plan to get more imaginary money to spend on it

I'm more curious as to who they expect to sell this beast to. The US military (or any other military)? Uh, don't think so
Maybe the uber rich flash types looking the latest 'curb monster' (Escalades are SOOOO 1990s
.). |
