"1715. The Golden Age of Piracy. New Providence is a lawless island, controlled by history's most notorious pirate captains. The most feared – CAPTAIN FLINT."

Hadn't seen that yet.

Interesting, it looks like an old fashioned pirate movie. No giant goddesses or ships going down a toilet.

Thanks for sharing that link, Armand.

Looks great.

Finally, a decent pirate series, for an adult audience.

Sadly, I don't get Starz, so will probably have to buy the DVDs when they are released.

Can't wait to see it, since the on location filming, sets, vessels, and characters look superb!

I always wondered why no one had done one of these already, since the subject matter is a superb backdrop for a series, or group of movies.

Looks good.

Is this supposed to be the Captain Flint with whom Long John Silver, Billy Bones, Pew and Beh Gunn sailed long before the events of Treasure Island?

So, Black Sails gets some mixed reviews in the "Last Days of Blackbeard" thread. Anyone else see it? I saw the first episode as a free preview with the nudity and gore blurred out, so someone with a Starz subscription will have to report on the quality of those elements.

I thought it was OK. It isn't great history, but it isn't full blown fantasy either. It appears to be a kind of prequel to Treasure Island, with Flint, Silver, and Billy Bones making appearances.

It shows promise, but I don't think it will rise to the quality of Deadwood or Game of Thrones – 2 shows that clearly influence Black Sails. I'll watch it again.

Reports from some in the TMP Lounge are not very positive, unless you've had a lot of rum, like your women to be like Cap'n. Jack Sparrow, who can do everything well, and are into more than a bit of lesbianism.

Many, who are even quite interested in the latter, said they may not bother watching it any more.

Supposedly, some aspects are good, but others are given less attention than a middle school theater production might consider acceptable.

Haven't seen it myself, so hope it improves, and/or their impressions are wrong.

Walmart was supposed to be the exclusive venue for the DVDs, but there's no record of it, and I can't find anything on-line, or in their stores with customer service about it either, so looks like they may have dropped it after seeing the first episode(s).

I suggested drinking more rum might be the answer to any poor production values, since that seemed to be the solution for Cap'n. Jack, and many pirates from the day.

I recorded this and just saw 6 episodes last week with 2 to go.I thought it was much better then what people said.Definitely better than Crossbones which wasn't quite as bad as I also heard a lot of negatives about.

Watched season 2 and thought it was good.Season 3 hasn't aired yet but already has been renewed for season 4.This is one of my favorite shows. They play a little loose with the historical facts but I don't care as I've enjoyed each and every episode.

Has 4 stars on IMDB and 5 stars on Rotten Tomatoes. It has actually received a good deal of praise for its production values. Accurate history it is not, but it is not intended to be. After all, it's a prequel to a novel.
