SPOILER ALERT!.

"The Walking Dead is back! Last season on the incredibly nihilistic AMC show about the zombie apocalypse, Andrea died, the evil Governor killed a significant number of his own people and fled Woodbury, and Rick integrated the rest of the Woodburians into the prison community, which is now thriving. Rick, who suffered from some pretty severe mental issues after Lori died in childbirth, has handed off leadership to a governing council, literally putting down his guns and refusing to arm himself even on trips outside the compound. Now, he's just a simple farmer, growing food and raising lifestock. Hershel jokes that he needs to wear overalls, but Rick doesn't laugh because his Life is Pain.
He also spends a lot of time staring at a zombie with no eyes on the other side of the fence, and I can't tell if there's some sort of metaphor here about not being able to really see, or if the blood streaming from the sockets is supposed to look like tears, because Rick just loves seeing anything that mirrors his own profound inner sadness.

The premiere introduces us to whole host of new characters whose names don't get well-established, which never bodes well for them. There's Patrick, a nerdy, super-earnest kid who's friends with Carl. There's Tyreese's girlfriend, who doesn't have many characteristics yet beyond pretty and nice. Beaver from Veronica Mars shows up as Beth's new boyfriend, but even better, the man you might know best D'Angelo Barksdale joins the crew, bringing the number of Walking Dead castmembers who used to be on The Wire to a highly laudable two.

It's also worth noting that between Tyreese, Sasha (Tyreese's sister, who is both awesome and wholly a creation of the show), D'Angelo and Michonne, there's finally a substantial black contingent on The Walking Dead. It's something that had previously seemed oddly absent in a series that takes places near Atlanta, a city where the population that is more than 50 percent black. To the show's credit, it also manages to avoid immediately killing any of them off, although the prison does lose two people before the episode is over…"

SPOILER

It was a good premier. I loved the scene in the store. When the ceiling collapsed my wife started singing "It's raining men, hallelujah, it's raining men…"

Great set piece in the store with some creative zombie entrances.

Landorl – HA! I like your wife's sense of humor.

I kept on thinking: "Death from Above" true on multiple levels. I will tell my wife about raing men, she will like that…

I really enjoyed it. The writing on the show remains top notch. They even made the pretty obvious set-up/ambush scene with Rick really emotional.

my wife started singing "It's raining men, hallelujah, it's raining men…"

LOL. Nailed it. :)

I felt it was not good. The whole ceiling thing was silly. A chopper crashed on the roof and it did not cave in? It lands on its side on the roof and the blades don't slash big holes through the thin metal ceiling. No one hears anything moving on the roof (I was just in a big box store and could hear the workmen at the AC unit.) And the roof breaks in a zillion different places at once? I thought it was just silly. Put a big hole in one place, and then they all get drawn to that hole after a bit. Or have the Zeds all start moving to the damaged area which pushes it over the limit and the big hole opens and the all fall through.

and just what do they do with the stacks of dead along the fence anyway?

Walkers, they stab. The dead-dead they burn.

But given how (a) there are more outside the fences then last season and (b) they mentioned the numbers outside were growing (Chekhov's zombie), then we can look forward to the fences getting swamped soon.

Loved it.
I Have a theory on how Patrick died.
I to was thinking "Death From Above" and made the comment to my mother who had to watch it with me since she visited on the season premiere.
As for the "Raining Men" comment. The guy who was on Talking Dead said that was the comment he kept saying multiple times when pitching the scene to the writers or whomever he was referring to.
As for the chopper and the walkers on the roof. There are other reasons to explain it. Again this is a show about walking dead.
And not hearing the walkers on the roof is possible. I work in a big box store. When the guys are on the roof messing with the AC i can hear them in certain parts but not the entire roof. And when they walk they are heavy footed and with purpose in their steps. Not just shambling around here and there with no purpose till they hear/smell food like the zombies on the roof.
Just my two cents.

Its all make believe, a chopper not crashing through a roof should be the least of your worries regards how realistic the show is.
The dead get up and walk around, that is the level of realism right there.

I just watched it last night.
It was OK.
