OK, the poll has ended. I didn't separate out Napoleonics and ACW from the 19th century which turned it into something of a power house. Next time will be different, hopefully that won't turn WWII into the power player.

ANYWAY, I think the best way to proceed is to take nominations for the rules the club will study. As I said, I would like people to nominate a ruleset for consideration. Any rules are fine as along as they are relevant to 19th century warfare and generally available in most countries (either free or for purchase).

To make it into the poll, someone else will have to second your nomination. If possible, I'd like to keep publishers and authors from seconding their rules (nominating would be fine tho, I suppose) I will monitor this thread looking for nominations and seconds. Nominations will last until the thread falls off the main page (3 days, or about this time Monday). I will then ask Bill for another poll.

So, without further ado, my nomination is:

Warhammer: Legends of the Old West

Alias Zero12 Nov 2004 7:32 a.m. PST

Second

CATenWolde12 Nov 2004 7:42 a.m. PST

"19th Century" is a bit too broad, as you hint. It spans three or four major hobby genres, including Napoleonics, the Franco-Prussian-etc. wars, the ACW, and Colonials. I think a second poll should choose between those 4, and then narrow it down.

Otherwise:

Napoleonic Grand Tactical: Grande Armee versus F&F Napoleonic

Napoleonic Tactical: General de Brigade versus Shako

Colonial Skirmish: TSATF versus ? (perhaps Galsight?)

Colonial Big Battle: 800 Fighting Englishmen versus Battles for Empire

Well, I think the kinks are being worked out but things are going so far. One thing I might have forgot to mention is that I'd like to keep each person to ONE nomination and ONE second. Otherwise the list turns into a big spew.

Oh, and because you might not get in right under someone's nomination, please say what you're seconding. Thanks!

Keep up the good work, I like this so far!

Would it seem too self serving to nominate our own "John Company" rules for 18th and 19th Century India?

If the spread of period alone makes this inappropriate, how about our "The Sun Never Sets," or "B'hoys!," or "The Kris And The Flame," all published by the same folks as the frequently nominated "The Sword And The Flame." (Only the latter of the three is a variant of TSATF.)

Brother Against Brother; Fields of Honor; Johnny Reb III come to mind among those tat haven't yet been mentioned.

I'd like to second John Company.

Whats the point of picking sets like TSATF, Fire and Fury, etc.? These are well established sets with lots of reviews, supplements, articles and other supporting material. I'd rather see something that isn't already widely covered.

Warhammer: legends of the old west.

"These are well established sets"

I didn't see the point so much as doing something completely NEW as I did doing something DIFFERENT. Someone beat me to it but I almost seconded TSATF. Sure, its old and established but I don't own it, wouldn't mind owning it, and it would ne new to me.

I picked WH:LOTOW because I have an ERTL cow town that needs building and this could be the excuse.

No idea is too stupid, we'll sort that out in the poll grin

Dear Zagloba,

Thank you, Sir, for the "Second!"

Anybody for a "Third?"

I am going to second Brother Against Brother. Dual use in Napoleonics and ACW give a very wide audience.
