I have been playing 'Longstreet' solo for quite a while now and have decided to try them out on a wargaming friend who tends to play more mainstream type rules , I'll be interested in his reaction as they are very different to his normal type of rules . I set the scene on my blog link |

Actually I thought Jackson was an over rated neurotic. Longstreet a genius before his time. |

Dan Sickles is my man. One the best generals the Confederacy had. |

"Longstreet a genius before his time." That's what "Killer Angels" would have you think. He was sadly lacking when in independent command. His lack-luster foray in coastal North Carolina during the Chancellorsville campaign is one case. His defeat at Knoxville in late 1863 is another. Lost Cause folks always want to blame the defeat at Gettysburg on him. This is because he blamed Lee for Pickett's charge and joined the Republican party. I think the person most to blame for the loss was Lee. But if you want to see Longstreet screw up, look west. After smashing the Union center at Chickamauga, Longstreet got into a snit with Bragg. This led him to differ with Bragg, even when that fool was right. Longstreet paid little attention to Grant's effort to re-open the supply line, arguably the critical move of the campaign. He then sent entirely too few troops to stop the move. Then he was sent off to Knoxville with a good chunk of the army just as Grant concentrated his forces at Chattanooga. This last was Bragg's bone-headed choice. But Longstreet did more damage to the Confederate cause while out west than anything the Lost Cause folks accuse him of in the east. Of course, Lee considered him one of his best corps commanders. And Lee couldn't be wrong, could he? :^) |

I think the person most to blame for the loss was Lee. Pickett said "I always thought the Yankees had a lot to do with it. Nothing wrong with jumping the Democrat party to become a Republican. I did it. And Lee couldn't be wrong, could he? :^) Bite your tongue, Sir, for even THINKING about it! |

Right, time to get this thread back on track! Mossdocking, nice blog and great AAR. You manage to weave game mechanics well into the narrative. Posts like this are valuable because there really aren't that many informative reports out this early on Longstreet. Please post a link of your blog on the Honour forum (if you haven't already) because I think you'll get a more receptive audience. Nice minis and terrain. Keep up the good work! |

Really like the style of your report, thanks. I played my first game a couple of weeks ago, got thumped and loved every minute! When that happens then you know they're the rules for you. Sash & Saber have profited mightily from this discovery
