A "what I did on my holidays" blog entry – a visit to a toy soldier museum in Valencia with some photos: link I'd really recommend this place (80,000 soldiers in a delightful set of rooms), and indeed Valencia. |

Nice to see – and I agree with you on the older figures – they have a style when seen en masse |

What an epitaph for a life-long collector! Now if I can only find a modest mansion to house my unworthy collection when I pass, then I know I can rest in peace. |

Actually, it isn't so modest. The museum is housed in part of the 1st floor (2nd floor to you Americans) and was labyrinthine enough that I managed to misplace the exit – the ground floor includes a small courtyard and nice staircase up to the entrance to the museum, a shop, and two large rooms rented out for temporary displays etc. I also peeked around a a half opened door marked "private" to find a workshop about the size of a double garage with other rooms leading off it – nobody was working but there was a diorama of WWII ski troops being worked on. The building is literally 150 yards from the main square in the old town of Valencia. Easy to find once you know where it is but not well advertised from the outside – which seems fairly typical of Valencia, they have some interesting buildings and museums but don't put much effort into shouting about them. Everything seems to be tucked away and you are left with the pleasant joys of discovery! |
