Well, you or your champion need to wargame against The Editor or his champion. The winner
wins and can change the name, or not
yippee! |

So if we are going to change the name and vote on it, let's see a list of what options are available. And while we are at it, let's eliminate ALL boards that are not to our liking. I think all of the Fantasy and SF boards should go, this would eliminate most of the pictures that are so offensive. Then we could get rid of all boards that have to do with war for those that think that is offensive. And when they came for me there was no one to protest. TIG |

so far "NSFW minis" is my fav. |

tigrifsgt I"m not interested in getting rid of the board, dear. Just renaming it. |

Probably shouldn't say this but I did not know this board even existed before now. I don't really get the rational for what board goes under which category. Sometimes you find a board and you can't remember where you saw it. Does it go under TMP Plus or General Boards or whatever. I vote to keep the board. But I see no practical purpose for it, therefore I support it. |

Since this thread has gotten so much attention, let me add this. It is a paraphrase from another board. We may not need more boobies, but we certainly don't need less boobies. Support breast cancer research and donate. You just may be saving the life of someone you love. |

I don't understand all this fuss over a seabird. |

I'd favor changing the boards to "Pin-Up Miniatures" or something similar. I find "Needs More Boobies" is too juvenile, and "Cheesecake" will lead to problems people google the phrase "miniature cheesecake" looking for something like this: link or this:

NSFW isn't as bad as the present choice, but something else could be better. |

Interesting how a word and a phrase has generated so much controversy. Having shown the title to my wife, she said ok so what and laughed, which is the same laugh I get when I talk about wargaming. In a later discussion, she stated (and I quote) – "its not offensive, it can be if one so takes it that way, rather than with good sense and humor". [I agree] She doesn't like the Three Stooges either and this is the level that I relegate the title, to which I laugh at both. Change the title or not, they will still come, and someone will be offended, one way or the other
If someone seriously has such a problem with the title, I suggest calling it "Human Anatomy, Female – One Each NSFW Version 3.0" With a warning: Danger, some items posted within this message board may not be suitable for those under the age of 18 (or a minset thereof). Please do not access if you may be offended by the mere mention in non-standard, descriptive, non-anatomical terms of the human female body". LoL |

I'm so pleased your wife isn't offended, although given that she doesn't frequent these boards it's rather a moot point. Interesting that when people first suggested naming it something else, because it wasn't female gamers complaining that it was a bit puerile, it was being offended for the sake of it and 'where are these offended women?' Then they did speak up and the strawmen began. 'They want to ban the board' and 'My wife's not offended, so they shouldn't be' aren't particularly strong counter-arguments. Attempting to equate it (however tongue in cheek) to what happened in Nazi Germany is just ridiculous. Personally I see no need to delete the board, in fact I would say it's necessary on The Miniatures Page and it gives people the chance to discuss anatomy and skin tones to their heart's content. The last time I was looking overmuch at semi-nude miniatures though I was about 10, looking at the 54mm sculpts advertised in the back of Military Modelling. The current name (old in-joke or not) conjures up a similar mentality and given the turnover of posters it has little context for lots of posters. Human Anatomy, NSFW, The Human Form, call it what you will. I've yet to see any real arguments as to why a simple name change for the benefit of regular posters (rather than nebulous 'folks I know offline') is more offensive than a puerile and cliquey in-joke. I don't count 'stop being thin-skinned' and 'you're not the boss of me' as particularly persuasive as they could be used by either side. |

Maybe offended shouldn't be the word. Maybe just annoyed by the sexism and immature, peurile nature of it. I am offended by some things eg this post TMP link but not by this one TMP link Yep change the name, but calling it NSFW is boring. I am all for equal opportunity opportunity objectification. So lets call is Ball & Boobs, Or Nekkid Minis Board (as suggested). Thanks to Liz and the OFM, and the other grown ups on here. |

NMB makes my skin crawl. Can't remember what it was called before but I seem to recall it being a board for discussion of the human form in miniature. Now it's pretty much lead soft porn with middle aged men drooling over it. Deeply creepy rather than offensive. A change of name might bring back the original intent but I doubt it. |

on TMP link … 632&page=2bill said "Simply not true. At the time of the vote, I don't remember any of our female members making a comment. alizardincrimson was protesting long after the vote, and threw a tantrum when it was suggested to put the matter up for a new vote – she wanted her way, right now." Some mistake surely? |
TwinMirror | 03 Aug 2014 5:26 a.m. PST |
The board should definitely be renamed. I suggest simply 'nudes & erotica', or 'nudes and pin-ups'; or for those who can't approach the subject without a shield of euphemism, perhaps 'figure studies.' As a former art student, I find both those that become upset about nudes in art, and those that snigger at it in a childish manner, to be simililary prurient and prudish – both responses seem unbefitting an adult. Equally, there is nothing inherently bad about eroticism; like many things in life it is your own relationship to it which defines the thing. Some of the figures on the board are in my opinion, somewhat cheesy or burlesque, but really, so are a great many non-nude and non-erotic figures on the forum in general. Gurning space warriors with giant shoulder pads and even bigger guns, angriliy shaking a severed head? I find it amazing people can become upset or provoked over a nude figure study, while happily play a game involving mass murder. Let's face it – all these things are just playing make-believe, they're not worth getting upset about. And most of us can distinguish fantasy from reality – to a practical extent, anyway! |

I am pretty much in agreement with TwinMirror on all points. Esepecially the easy acceptance and positive clamoring scenes of brutal dismemberment and mutilation So change the name if you wish, but…. it won't be enough. The campaign ill go on for total elimination of the board and a war on its content for EXACTLY the reason Twin Mirrors said. This from the same people who will pant after even more eroticism in car ads. But as I said, it won't be enough. Stifle wasn't enough, ignore is quickly turning to be revealed as not being enough. As for the argument of "how would your wife feel about you looking at pictures of such women),well if the wife is so insecure…. I have above my desk where I do most of my writing and game design at home a full size poster of Adrienne Barbeau from the 1970's in a cerise bustier with a smoldering come-hither look. It's been professional framed and has the original picture it was taken from next to it also framed and next to that, the certificate of authentication. When my wife's women friends ask her why she puts up with it, she laughs at them and says "I've got him, all he's got is a picture of Adrienne. Besides, I know he loves me." She then tells them a story of when she was at work and told some friends I was going away to a convention. They were all surprised that she let me go. "There's hookers at these conventions!!!! What if he takes up with one" they clucked. My wife laughed and said "I've been to those conventions, any hooker there will starve! What! Pay you $100 USD a night, I can get five regiments for that! would be his answer. She then pointed to Adrienne and said If Otto was on the elevator going up to his room and SHE got on wearing NOTHING but a pair of high heels, he'd say…"Gee my wife has a uniform just like that at home." Otto |

Otto, What a great post! Enjoyable. Love the story about the convention! I have a miniature marble copy of Paoline Bonaparte reclining by Canova. My wife said to me that she'd love to see the real one in Rome. After we married, it was placed out and my grown stepsons and step daughter remarked "that's a statue of a nude woman" and I told them that they were very observant. Nothing more said. My grandson is less than interested in a marble statue that he walks past any time he visits. |
