For 1:285 Infantry, I use either a penny (Canadian, now out of production and ever so hard to find :P ), or more recently, a 25mm round plastic thin base from Renedra.

Just wondering what are the most common base sizes for infantry

There is really no way of knowing what is the most common base size. For my 6mm WW2 stuff, all my infantry units are on 20mm wide by 30mm deep bases for Megablitz.

I use pennies or 1" by .75" floor tiles pieces.

I use 3/4" x 1/2" sheet styrene bases for WWII infantry squads; 1/2" x 1/2" bases for command, rifle team, MMG & HMG, light mortar, and other smaller support weapons (Bazooka, PIAT, etc.); and 3/4" x 3/4" for heavy mortars (80mm+) and AT guns and crews. I primarily use Mein Panzer rules for my 6mm WWII games.
