Is it cartoony, like the flag in Mars Attacks?
link Or is it cryptid-based, like the round Rendlesham Forest incident glyph?
link Here's my favorite one:
link TMP link So
what do you use (or plan to use)? Thanks, Dan |

I've got a couple on my Martian Hullcutters but the best are either plain Red or Red disc on Yellow or Yellow disc on Green. Not very imaginative! Tony |

Hard to show, as many know my camera doesn't pic them up.Playing Space 1889 each Martian city have their own. From earlier work ,two moons are popular with Martian letters from the canon. I favour banners over flags and free style the images or writing.I match the colours up to colours I've picked for each army I'm playing at the time. For example blue, purple and white/gold for my Fadath army. Some have Martian 'animal' motifs. Red and yellow for the city colours of Shastapsh but each "flag" band (military unit) / company have their own standard based on the early work in the canon. I also like the Parroom Station style of flags printed on their figure pack cards. Elf like designs can also be useful to adapt.Guess it would depend on the style of game your playing i.e. old dying culture (curves and fancy bits) or advanced superpower(cold and clean lines)all a matter of taste? |

Yes, I like the IJF type flag with red circle and black background
I did something similar for my CinC/PFC 6mm Felids –

I don't have a flag as such, but I painted a copper disk (Mars/Barsoom) with 2 much smaller silver disks (Phobos/Thuria, Demos/Cluros), 1 to each side, on a black field on the tail fin of a scratch-built flyer for my Barsoom games. |

How did I miss that Martians were such big fans of my favorite band (or viscera)

From an old blog post of mine ( link ) on colonies in the Solar System before interstellar travel: FREE MARS
As the revolutionaries used red bandanas to signify rebel affiliation, the Mars Conclave adopted the plain red banner as its flag upon receiving UN recognition. |

Each city state has its own flag, of course. So does the Crown Colony of Mars. |

My Mars is 1889 and since the org charts mention Bannermen, I went with banners – yes, yes very original. I haven't got around to making up bearer figures yet but hey do appear on the unit cards. link link |

Like them although the moons of Mars are not round but rather odd-potato shaped. Something with Olympus Mons, the giant volcano?
like samurai use of mount Fuji imagery. The face on mars?

11th ACR, LOL. Hey, I didn't realize that Marvin the Martian was Japanese!!! Dan |
Cacique Caribe | 28 Sep 2013 12:56 p.m. PST |
By the way, if Mars ends up being multinational at first, while terraforming is completed, I suspect the Martian countries will begin as colonies: 1) Joint US/UK colony; 2) China's colony; 3) Japan's colony; 4) Russia's colony; 5) Megacorporate claims; and 6) Unclaimed territories ("wild" lands) Thoughts? Dan PS. Do you think Germany would establish its own colony also? |
tkdguy | 28 Sep 2013 1:11 p.m. PST |
That's what it's like in my game, since it's a near-future game. No megacoroporate colonies, though. There have been a few failed colonies in the early years, probably under UN charters. I didn't put in a German colony on Mars, but I have a British colony. I also added a Cuban colony, New Havana. It's Cuba's sole extraterrestrial colony. It recently armed itself with nuclear warheads. This caused a stand-off on Martian space between two space cruisers, the USS Kennedy and the RFS Kruschev. |

You know
with all the probes we send to Mars
have they ever sent any in the area of The Face or any of the other nearby terrain that looks like "ruins" ?! But back OT
I still like the black flag with red circle
Or maybe a black flag with just a red triangle/pyramid

The beauty of your work Mr Treadaway. If only we humble fans had the skill to make such great ships. A question if I may? When you came up with the flag designs were they intended for one faction or were they general Martian ones? |
John Treadaway | 30 Sep 2013 1:46 a.m. PST |
DLIinVSF – thanyou for your kind words and a good question – I think we had various ideas when we were laying them out. The "Mars and the two moons" motif – on either Green or Red pennents – was meant to represent Mars and either one faction or possibly split into two so that we could have Martian allies on both teams. The yellow and red flags with the 'squiggly' writing on them were ship names or some other markings to identify particular ships. I was annoyed to see that a couple of the picture links on the site for the Hullcutters came up with a 404. I'll have to look into that. It's been a while (though we do have a cunning plan for Salute next year which may come off!) John T |
