Hello Guys,

I am currently starting a commission for a client and I am about to put brush to model, but I need help. I am currently working on the new Warlord starter kit and as these are my first Second World War models and I am very much in the dark as I usually do Naps.

I am about to slap on AV German Grey on some Germans and build up on that but I want to get the green-grey and brown colour that keeps cropping up in my research.

Therefor I like to know what particular base colour you would used for the late war German Heer to get that desperate late 44 early 45 feel?

Thank you all in advance.

Regards,

Kurt.

Tamiiya feldgrau is the correct colour

Tamiya feldgrau is pretty green compared to the uniform jackets, although it is the correct RAL mix. It matches the colour on my gas mask tin, but not the greyer hued wool.

Vallejo German uniform is a decent match, but for a late war ragamuffin look you want to mix in various shades of grey and green. Some my guys are in faded reed green hbt which adds a some variety and you can hint at the poor quality brownish wool with a brown inkwash.

I add brown to the base coat :o)

Vallejo's Panzer Aces Feldgrau is one option.

Lifecolour do a German uniform set with two types of field grey: One slightly greener, reminiscent of the Tamiya one, and one slightly brown-grey.

For latewar I like to use Miniatures Andrea Feldgrau over Vallejo, as it is lighter and more gray. I also use it as a highlight for earlywar uniforms, which I paint with the Vallejo color.

Wonderful. Thank you all for your answers.

I have gone and got some tamiya fieldgrau an added AV burnt umber to it. Then I have washed with citadels old brown wash before highlighting with AV green Grey mixed with some umber. I must say it comes out a lot better than expected.

Kurt.
