So I've ordered up my Kickstarter and add-ons. Now to the planning. I bought this so I'd have a cool game for my 9 year old son to cut his teeth on. Being a huge fan of Robotech I jumped on it.

Now to the planning for paint. Having never played or owned a 'mecha' based mini's game how should I proceed? I plan on painting the Zentradi in the traditional colors. But the 'good guys' I wanted to divide in half, one group for Lil Man and one for myself. He's partial to blue color schemes…ON EVERYTHING, so I was leaning towards a 'blue' scheme for him. Any ideas?

Thanks

I'd suggest getting either the Macross or Robotech DVDs. Most (if not all) of the Valkyrie squadrons had unique color schemes, and were called Blue Squadron, Brown Squadron or whatever.

I'm planning on looking up all the USN high-vis color schemes and painting them on the Valks (since that was a lot of the inspiration, anyway).

Not sure what to do for the Destroids, though I'm likely to run a slightly different base color for each unit type. DAK Yellow, two or three different Dunkelgelb, maybe the US desert sand. I probably won't go for the Brits 'Desert Pink', though.

Most units, whether Veritech or Destroid used a light tan for the grunts (Gladiators being the exception). Officers and aces had customized color schemes:

Rick (Vermilion Leader)- VF-1J white with red highlights

Skull One (Fokker and Hunter) – VF-1S white with black/yellow highlights and jolly roger.

Max Sterling – Mostly blue with white and white highlights.

I agree with Lion, use the DVD's or even Robotech: Battlecry if you have it for PS2 they have some good schemes there too.

The spartan at least was shown as blue in some shots and there was a spartan toy released with a blue scheme. (google : blue robotech spartan)

And what Lion said.

That is the winner I think. I will probably roll with the classic "Skull Squadron" White with black and yellow.
Anybody have any cooler pics?

Thanks for the input thus far! My buddy went to GenCon and now laments not ordering the Kickstarter I bugged him for weeks to join lol

I am thinking a dark green and tan scheme for my veritech and my destroids will be a tan scheme.

McWong7320 Sep 2013 3:06 p.m. PST

I went in for a Reckless, the sheer number of minis has been hard to wrap my head around that I haven't even thought about paint schemes.

Generalstoner4920 Sep 2013 3:20 p.m. PST

Wong, our group is at Reckless as well. It was for this very reason I have been learning how to airbrush just to save time.

I am going to buy only the Quadrono suits, to be repurposed later. Depending on what I use them for will determine the paint scheme.

Max drove a blue Valkyrie:

Google "macross valkyrie max type" for lots of reference. Happy modelling!

I was probably taking after my name sake when purchasing battlecry.

I will paint up one of each hero (Roy, Max, Millia, Rick, Ben) and probably the tan scheme for the rest

For instance I may do this one

I didn't see the point in getting multiples of the characters, but good lord did I buy a pile of minis…

I'm definitely putting all the characters into their 'official' colors.

This one, of course:

are these actually being released? I figured KS would have to revise everything like he does to all his other freelanced/subcontracted work….

Lion in the Stars22 Sep 2013 9:50 a.m. PST

We've seen test-shots of many of the sprues already. Fortunately, somebody convinced KS that cheaping out on the minis would kill the game. I suspect that Harmony Gold put their foot down.

All the minis look really good, and despite the massive success of the project, it seems to be on track for a roughly-Christmas release for the entire KS package. The UPS man is going to kill me, I went a 'bit' nuts. 8-12 of dang near every mini nuts.

Check for Gencon photos, there were lots of demo games played.

Warmaster Horus23 Sep 2013 3:39 p.m. PST

Wow Thanks guys!

Sergeant Crunch23 Sep 2013 8:10 p.m. PST

I'm going to keep it simple, the tan cannonfodder scheme for most, squadron leaders will be like Rick's but different colors.
