What is recommended as a material to make the base out of for a 28mm green for casting? I would like the base to be strong, but as thin and small as possible. Suggestions? |

Acrylic? It's rather inert to chemicals and strong. I can get it all the way down to 1/32". If you don't need anything too complex then you can get small sheets at Lowes and cut them down. |

Hi Jcolley: We make our thin, cast on bases from really hard putty like A+B, Aves Apoxy Sculpt or Milliput. One of our freelancers uses really thin brass sheet with a thin layer of putty on it. Both work well for vulcanizing. -Matt Beauchamp Hydra Miniatures hydraminiatures.com |

Metal sheet and putty would probably be your best bet, I'd think. Plastics can melt under the heat of the vulcanising process, warping the base. You can use a low-temp curing rubber, but it would depend on who's moulding them, and whether they use those materials. EDIT: Matt beat me to it! |

Thanks for the excellent suggestions. I never thought of using putty over a metal (brass) sheet. Where would you recommend finding thin brass sheet and how is it cut? I appreciate the help. Kind regards! |
