Some details of the peculiar Danish "frontal" turnbacks, the 1812 system of rank identification by sleeve lace and rosettes, and 4 more units of my 1812 era 25mm Minifgs Danes:

Lovely stuff Peter and my all time fav figures Minifigs, pretty flags too. Well done!

Peter,
Love the figures, I'm still wondering why I ever sold off my 25mm Minifigs.

Very well done!

Thanks, guys. The Minifigs did best with straightforward "block"painting, IMHO, maybe some black lining (see my ECW figures). The clean style of sculpting doesn't work that well with most shading techniques (not that it can't be done, of course!)

Hopefully this series (which has at least another 7 posts to go) will help raise awareness (and the easy availability of information)about this interesting and relatively little known Napoleonic army.

Wow, that takes me back!

May I ask which 28mm figures could be used to represent a Danish army please?
Thanks

Define "represent".

As described in Gonsalvo's excellent blog, their early uniform was pretty unique in both jacket and headgear.

For the later type, French or perhaps Confederation of the Rhine might be pressed into service?

It all depends on how much detail you're willing to fudge…

Sapeur19 Sep 2013 4:38 a.m. PST

It was the later type I was thinking about.

Gonsalvo,

Didn't the Danes model their jacket after the Potemkin Russian kurtka, including the front turnbacks? The jackets are almost the same [except for color and the epaulette]? I remember getting corrected when I posted the Norwegian army 1808 and 1814 orbat on the Yahoo Scandinavian Wars group that the Norwegian grenadiers didn't wear the bearskin and were still wearing the old grenadier hat that had been modeled on the Potemkin helmet. So, in that case, the front turnbacks wouldn't be that 'peculiar' after all. Not picking a fight, just asking.

Love the figs – too bad Minifigs didn't do a range of these in 15mm. The range of Nap. Danes in 15mm is a combination of 1808 infantry and artillery and 1813 cavalry!

You're correct about the similarity of the Danish Napoelonic uniforms to the earlier Potemkin uniform… certainly out if use in Russia by the time of the Napoleonic Wars proper.

The Norwegians – just got a good source of information on them, so we may see a post or two about them after I have beaten the Danes to death. :-)

It appears that Eagle Miniatures do Danish and Swedish figures in 28mm so will be investigating that lead.
